Bots fleeing fortified enclosed areas. Can it be fixed?

When I order bots to hold position in a bunker or other enclosed area and then building sandbag fortifications around entrances the bots are fleeing that area in a very chaotic, claustrophobic way, completely ignoring my ‘hold position’ command. They often run outside under enemy fire just to not get enclosed in some space. Does this behaviour have some purpose? Because it to be very illogical and dissapointing. As soon as they leave strongpoint on their own they die in a couple of seconds.

I know bots have problems climbing obstacles so it doesn’t make sense to order them to enter object with fortifications built around but at least when playing defensively they could just stay where they’re ordered to stay and let player deal with each one of them.

I agree that they should focus on fixing this specifically (or expedite the AI rework overall) as nearly every game that I played Axis Normandy, I would tell my troops to stay in the first capture point bunker (overlooking beach). They would just run through barbed wire to get outside to the front part of the bunker and stand on the outside of the bunker’s MG nest and just stand there. They were obviously killed rather quickly.

To tell you the truth, if I am locked in a bunker with a guy who calls himself “Adolf on meth”, and he started blocking the doors and windows “for protection”, I’d freaking run out as well.
What we are witnessing here, is the birth of actual intelligence from bots. You actually scared them into being self-aware. I am sure the Nobel prize will follow shortly

Do they flee even if no artillery was set on the position? They tend to flee then, even from buildings.

Yes, give them order to hold 2nd floor room in a building, start building sandbag wall on top of staircase and they are running away. No artillery involved.

My bots were captured by someone building a spawn point and barbed wire + sandbags in a small attic like what you described, so I welcome this behaviour for now. It’s more sensible with their pathfinding issues and missing ability to cross defenses, than what the engineer did there.
