I have the entire moscow axis side unlocked, and I am currently going through all the guns I have accrued and organizing the max level ones on a spreadsheet.
When it comes to bolt actions, it seem like the Kar98k with grenade launcher when fully stared out can one hit pretty well at a distance, the sites are not terrible, and with the added flexibility of a grenade launcher, it seems like a no brainer.
Is there something I am missing? Should I be looking at a different bolt action to focus upgrading?
I am thinking about making one of my infantry squads purely bolt action, to help push and support at mid range in the games.
Any and all advice is much appreciated.
closest competition is the prewar kar, but you’re still better off with the grenade launcher.
Side effect of the bolt action buff is that former damage differences between bolt actions don’t really matter anymore.

Was quite annoying because i upgraded my vz 24s to do 17 damage and then i could get the same result with kar with much better sights, kar probably has the 2nd best bolt action sights in the game, only losing to the finnish mosin m/28

The grenade laucher takes up the bayonet slot.
Using it also means you CANNOT do a sprint charge. An important fact to consider.
As for the rest, vz hurts a bit more so more of a guaranteed ohk… but at this point it’s which iron sight you prefer, and reload/ bullet cycling speed that works best for you.
The 98k has the best sights of all standard rifles but if you can deal with the slightly worse sights the pre war 98 has way faster chambering
I am pleasantly surprised that there are still players who are considering/want to use BA.
So to your question …
Use the one whose sights you like (for example i like open sights so VZ.24) , that’s factor one.
And factor two is that you will try other BA over time anyway 
I don’t know, maybe it’s just me, but I like to switch them up or mix them up.
By using BA rifles you really helping with historical accuracy of the battles, so you can be proud of yourself 
Sure? I prefer the Lee here with its iron sight.
Now that the bolt actions 1 shot from most ranges they can silence anyone using any weapon making them a legitimate end game competitive weapon. I love the starter Springfield 1903 and more so with grenade launcher in Pacific. every campaign except Allied Normandy I have a bolt action squad in my end game arsenal. Allied Normandy the M2 carbine deathsquad is a treasure

Personal opinion, but you should use the one that has the most comfortable sights for you.
My personal favorite is the VZ24. Followed by having my flamethrower squad with Gewher 33/40. Because why not, nothing says competitive than nuking squads with a starter rifle.
Or mix them up in a 9 man rifle squad until you find what works best for you.
