Bf 110 G-4 BR 4

The Night Reaper descends in silence — Bf 110 G-4

If you’re tired of the Bf 110 G2’s terrible air-to-air performance, this plane is for you.

Armament Configuration

Type Weapon Caliber Qty Ammo RPM Burst Mass (kg/s) Position / Notes
Offensive MK 108 30mm 2 255 600 3.30 Nose
Offensive MG 151 20mm 2 750 700 1.29 Belly gun pod
Schräge Musik MG FF/M 20mm 2 480 520 0.94 70° upward (behind cockpit)
Defensive MG 81 (twin) 7.92mm 2 1,500 1,596 0.27 Rear gunner turret

The G4 ditches the 37mm cannon mount for two nose-mounted MG 151s, giving it stronger and more accurate forward firepower, so no more suffering that awful 37mm bullet drop.

Its unique Schräge Musik system also gives it improved dogfighting ability.

When you take control of the Schräge Musik gunner view, the aircraft remains fully maneuverable. The Schräge Musik can reach the aiming point ahead of the nose-mounted guns, allowing you to gain a tactical advantage and offset the aircraft’s slow turn rate.

At BR4, the best payload options are four rockets, a 500kg bomb, or two 250kg bombs. I think four rockets is the best fit. The G4 trades the G2’s great infantry suppression for better air combat performance. I believe the G4 belongs at BR4, which would allow the G2 to move back to BR3.

Following the Battle of Britain, the Bf 110 saw action over the Mediterranean and the Soviet Union. As RAF Bomber Command intensified its night attacks on Germany, the majority of Bf 110s were reassigned to newly formed night fighter wings. Equipped with radar, the aircraft proved to be a capable interceptor, although its performance was constrained by insufficient speed, the aerodynamic drag of its radar antenna array, and a short operational range. The Bf 110 G-4 marked the final production variant. By the end of World War II, a total of over 6,000 Bf 110s had been manufactured.

Considering its widespread service and production numbers, I think the Bf 110 G-4 deserves to be added to the game as a tech tree vehicle.

If it’s given 4 x those big-ass rockets, it’ll be almost indistinguishable from the G-2. Sure, it’ll be easier to balance, but at what cost? Wasting such a interesting airframe? For basically what we have already? The same armament can be found in the Me 410 aswell!

People can’t hit tanks with the rockets and become a detriment to the team already with the G2…

Prefer a mix if possible like 2 rockets and 1 250kg… atleast then they can suicide bomb properly.

However having capable air to air the 4 rockets seem a fair trade for requiring skill to kill tank.

It only gets rockets or bombs for balance reasons. Because of how the devs have defined the role of German aircraft, not a single German plane in the current version carries both rockets and bombs. So we have to choose between anti infantry and anti armor.

I recommend going with four rockets for two reasons

Best case: The G4 gets added, and the G2 moves down to BR 3 (forum has plenty of reasons, I won’t repeat). Germany will have rocket equipped attack aircraft at both BR 3 and BR 4.

Worst case: The G4 gets added, but the G2 stays at BR 4. Even then, you have another option for a BR 4 rocket plane. You can either take the G2 for anti-infantry, or the G4 for some air combat ability.

But whether it carries rockets or bombs, it will be an excellent supplement to the BR 4 attack aircraft.
