I sincerely hope the devs can make improvements: reduce the durability of small obstacles so standard weapons can destroy them; remove stuns and slow effects caused by obstacles; fix the indestructible model bugs to enhance the overall gameplay experience.

Here’s my take on the environmental destruction and vehicle movement in the game. Most obstacles can barely be taken out by shells and have to be run over instead. What’s worse, the leftover debris will slow vehicles down, which is totally unrealistic.
To make matters worse, even satchel charges fail to cut down trees on maps like Berlin, Stalingrad and Pacific theatre.
In contrast to War Thunder, you can only destroy trees by hitting their roots here. Many trees block your view and there’s nothing you can do about them. Running into bushes or rocks will stall vehicles for 1 to 3 seconds, just like hitting a solid wall. What’s more, rubble from collapsed stone walls may even jack up tank hulls. In real life, WWII tanks could easily plow through such obstacles at full speed — a far cry from what we see in-game. There is also a bug on the Normandy map where indestructible wood fragments block the way.
Vegitation and cover have far too much health. Regular weapons cannot destroy them, which forces close-quarters combat.
This is clearly a deliberate adjustment made by the developers. Anyone who plays War Thunder, or even anyone with basic real-world knowledge, knows that rounds from 12.7mm and 13mm firearms can leave wounds as big as a bowl when hitting a human body. A sustained burst of such bullets is more than enough to take down and penetrate targets.
This issue first emerged a while back on the mostly flat Moscow map. Both sides extensively used heavy machine guns and managed to cut down large numbers of trees. Deeming this inappropriate, Anton changed the game rules. Now trees can no longer be damaged by bullets or artillery shells except at their roots.
The same restrictions apply to trucks, cars, farm tools and metal containers. The only exception is that the underlying code governing damage to tanks remains untouched.
That’s exactly why I’m frustrated. Very often, tanks can take cover behind trucks. Thanks to their higher hull profile, they act with impunity. It has also become far too easy for tanks to shield their weak points, and the same goes for infantry. High-explosive shells simply get completely absorbed when hitting these objects.
Yeah, it’s just too slow. That’s why in the game, these vehicles easily get stuck with TNT and explosives. Wheeled Pumas and British armoured vehicles can barely move on muddy or rough terrain. They’re even slower than tanks, so their mobility is basically non-existent.
Didn’t the production team previously say that the vehicle wreckage could be blown up by TNT? Since then, up to now, there has been no new information related to this. I think it might be either a limitation of the programming technology of the production team, or the game engine is just a pile of code garbage that they can’t handle.
I specifically tried it in the custom mode just now, but it didn’t work. Even when using the original APC squad and choosing to be born in the armored transport vehicle, it was still impossible to switch to the driver’s position.
I do agree that tank shells should take out trees, and if you have enough momentum, the tank itself should flatten the tree provided its large enough for the bigger trees. But the little tiny stick trees, you should be able to drive over with every vehicle no problem. I could also say the same with more destruction physics, we should be able to use explosives to instantly clear various types of obstacles away. But I don’t agree with using small arms to do that, maybe heavy AT weapons like rifles and launchers alongside TNT and explosive packs for non vehicle users. This should also include being able to take down low walls on foot instead of being required to use a vehicle to run over them.
The health values set for trees and structures in the game are absolutely ridiculous. For instance, along the waterways in the Pacific maps, there are clusters of wooden fishing stakes. No matter how heavy your tank is, running into them will make the vehicle jolt and grind to a halt, just like stepping on a rake.
Burnt trees in Berlin and tangled exposed tree roots in the Pacific can’t be destroyed by high-explosive rounds or demolition packs at all. Some thick mature trees in the Ardennes and Berlin are completely indestructible even when rammed by tanks, while other trees are flimsy as paper.
I’m really confused about how DF balanced these stats, especially when my artillery shell gets blocked by a thin sapling that’s slimmer than the round itself
