leave the previous post half incomplete so here I continue.
Volkssturm squad with French equipment and uniform.
‘‘The presence of the Volkssturm was claimed. Some of its members wore the blue-gray helmets of the French army and even their uniforms. It was the little that remained of the spoils of the great German victories of 1940 and 1941’’ The fall of Berlin 1945: Antony Beevor.
I know that encountering a Volkssturm squad in French uniform may be shocking at first, but it would be really unique to find old people wearing a worn-out, dirty and old-fashioned uniform. Maybe a reward for some achievement? maybe you see a pay skin for any squad already available? or do you see a premium squad? I don’t know, but to see something like that I think would be something interesting.
Nationalist banners.
it would not be bad if on some new map there were some banners to give atmosphere to the city. Here are some real examples:
-New machine guns for the Volkssturm.
During the Battle of Berlin every available equipment was used, so it really is a good place to experiment with ‘‘new’’ weaponry.
‘‘The 16/69th battalion of this militia was at Wriezen, on the edge of the Oderbruch, near the front line. He counted, at most, with a hundred thirteen men, of whom thirty-two were carrying out labors defensive in the rear and fourteen were sick or wounded. The rest guarded the anti-tank barricades and bridges. They had three types of machine guns, including several of Russian origin.’’ - Antony Beevor.
while the machine gun you’re seeing on screen isn’t the one Antony Beevor mentions, I think it serves very well as an example, and could be a good alternative to the already hackneyed mg 34 and mg 42.
anyway, this would be all on my part for now. Berlin is an interesting campaign, where interesting things can be added. I will continue reading a few more books, and I will see what I can contribute.
