I’ve been trying to play the Berlin Campaign lately a couple of times, and its quite brutal for startup squads with bolt action rifles vs premium squads with automatics. Part of the problem is that these maps are all essentially run and gun and so anything short of a burst capable weapon is at a significant disadvantage.
The problem is exacerbated by clutter - there is too much of it and a lot of it is illogical. All of the exterior areas where arguably the tanks are intended to maneouvre are stupidly over cluttered. Whereas the insides the buildings are largely empty other than artifically cluttered windows to disrupt firing lines from inside to outside.
I think the Devs need to spend some time and de-clutter all the maps. The props - such as 88’s, Generators, or destroyed tanks are completely unnecessary, but if you must have ambience then one or two in a key spot on the map is enough. Is it really necessary to remind the Devs that they’re anchoring the game on a historical event which they in their own context are making a campaign that game abstractions aside is trying to be reasonably historically accurate. There are more wrecks in one Berlin map than the entire German army had in its last stand over the whole campaign.
So please, apply some common sense, declutter the junk from the maps, the infantry have plenty of trenches and craters to seek cover within, and allow the tanks some maneouvre. Equally, if you want to have more authentic insides then look at historical photos of room, anterooms, lobbies for various places and seed the map with appropriate furniture and other man made obstacles.
What a quick google search showed is quite similar to some of the game streets around the Opera:

A video shortly afterwards suggests that even two months after the capture there was quite lot of debris and wreckages, but the streets were much cleaner and wider than in-game: https://youtu.be/R5i9k7s9X_A?t=81 and https://youtu.be/c8I6VfKYJGs?t=2303 - I guess you can find both more cluttered and less cluttered scenes in these videos.
I haven’t spent much time in the Berlin campaign so can’t say whether it’s good or not for the game, and will probably not do so until my squads can collect experience.
weird im able to snipe on berlin maps like crazy
there’s soo many spots to post up in you just gotta learn which buildings to climb and camp up in
Don’t misunderstand, I am not after pristine streets, but if you logged into the Berlin Campaign atm, you’d see what I mean. There is a lot more clutter in the streets then even what your selection of photos shows, and yeah now that you mention it, I did do some searches and I even looked through the links you provided, there are photos which do show civilian /military cars and wagons congesting some narrow streets, but in the broader main streets there is a lot less clutter. More importantly there are a lot less tank wrecks, or AA emplacements, which are currently impassible to in game tanks, can’t even push them aside. The only wrecks one can move is other destroyed player vehicles, which very quickly add to the congestion. So within the context of my original observation there is just too much clutter in the current maps.
I have no problem with the rubble and general debris on the maps, but the sheer overload of destroyed tanks make it look like the Highway of Death from Iraq War 1.0. The only destroyed tanks on the map should be those that were done during the match itself
Ok, I think I understand your point and agree with it. There are some places where these wreckages give perfect cover for infantry but they would be much better if they would not become barriers for tanks.
