In the 1930s, the Italian military (like all major military forces at the time) was investigating options for a semiautomatic service rifle. Beretta’s Tulio Marengoni developed one such rifle, and submitted it in two forms.

The first version of the rifle was produced in 1931, chambered for the then-standard 6.5x52mm Carcano cartridge. It was a short-recoil action with a rotating bolt, and fed from standard 6-round Carcano en bloc clips.

The second version was produced in 1937, after the Italian military had adopted the 7.35mm cartridge. The 1937 version was made slightly shorter and had a simple fixed rear sight (both changes similar to what would be made for the M38 Carcano rifles). The 1937 Beretta also used a new magazine system, fed by stripper clip. The capacity it not clearly known; Riccio states 9 rounds with a specialized clip. This would make some logistical sense, as a standard 18-round box of Carcano ammo would evenly fill two 9-round clips. However, it seems plausible that it might also have been a 10-round magazine with two 5-round clips, in line with what was typical elsewhere in the world. Finally, the 1937 rifle included a locking mechanism that could be used to prevent the barrel from recoiling, and thus turn the rifle into a manually-operated one instead of a self-loader. It is interesting that such a device was requested on the later model rifle, but not the early one. Perhaps it was based on accuracy concerns, or being able to fix the barrel in place for bayonet use?

The internal mechanism was quite novel. The very large firing pin spring actually served both to prevent slamfiring when the bolt closed and also provided the force to rotate the bolt into battery. This is typically done with a linear return spring pushing the bolt lugs against some typic of cam that forces them to rotate, but Marengoni’s design instead winds that firing pin spring rotationally and allows it to put direct rotational pressure on the bolt. Unlocking is, however, done by a rounded cam surface that the bolt handle stem contacts as the whole barrel and bolt assemble moves backwards. This camming surface forces the bolt handle up, unlocking the lugs.

Disassembly is a very simple process: unscrew the rear receiver cam and pull everything out. The cap is locked in place by the bolt release catch on the 1931, and by the ejector assembly on the 1937.

Ultimately the Armaguerra model 1939 was the winner of the extended Italian military trials, but World War II interrupted any plans to put it into mass production.

The 1931 would make a great alternate at BR2 as an event, bp or even premium weapon. The 1937 would be great in the tech tree if they can find a way to fix the G41 at BR3. Adding two more Italian rifles would be great to represent the second roman empire. The bottom fed stripper magazine of the 1931 would feel great in game. The site on the 1937 look great and would more then make up for the 9 round magazine.

Already in the game

It’s my favorite semi-automatic of BR2

The M37 could be an Italian event squad to serve as the counterpart to the Chinese squad with the Liu rifle

I was going to make a post about M37 but you were faster than me Lol

only at br3 the liu has 6 rounds the 1937 has 9 rounds

  • Feeds from 9-round fixed internal magazine (stripped clip fed)
but thanks for the 1931 info its easy to miss a lot of rare guns

Many weapons have more ammo in their magazines than their counterparts, so it wouldn’t be the first time

and those weapons
take more hits to kill - sar cant do unless you want it to be a two hit weapon
have less accuracy - sar cant do it unless it leans to sf accuracy
take longer to reload - if it reloads in 200% of the time sure
sar have great accuracy and high damage changing those sts enough to matter would destroy them as weapons
semi auto rifles
this is not like balancing smgs and mgs sa have set stats that are far harder to balance unless you want to tank damage making it a worse m1 carbine
or you could cut the rof in half like the kertz

so please tell me that stats that would make a 9 round sa rifle br2

When did I say the M37 is BR2? Stop putting words in my mouth

counterpart normally means the same br but if you mean that than i am sorry.
it is wrong to speak for other people.

Normally, but there are several cases of event and Premium squad counterparts that are different BRS

So there’s no problem if the Liu Rifle is BR2 and the M37 is BR3

sorry just gotten used to being the only one fighting wheeraboo power creep, i think the uk and italy need more respect
i am a ww2 buff and did not know that italy fought russia until recently

Without a doubt, Italy practically doesn’t exist in the game and uk as been receiving a lot of content in recent months, but it’s still not enough

if it was not for the Japanese navy Italy would have been a far bigger deal in the axis, if italy fought on its own front thus not fighting in Germanies shadow. If italy was not italy and did not switch sides in ww2 like it did in ww1, ok declared neutrality despite being allied to germany. then joined the allies.

and while it cant be a faction a proper subfaction system would really improve the game adding variety if anybody could play a full loadout of
us or uk
italy or germany
just like japan vs ussr which was a breath of fresh air to the game.

The problem was that Italy wasn’t prepared for WWII in 1940. The Italian generals told Mussolini that Italy would only be ready in 1942, but Mussolini didn’t listen, and we know what happened next Lol

Agree, actually most of the community thinks this is a good idea, but the devs don’t Lol

to be fair no one was ready for ww2
germany didnt want to start till 1941 and plan z was underway
ussr was getting over the civil war
china was still in one
the us and uk were still rebuilding

i want more of china and france but neither is even a subfaction
the people who want china as a faction can have that, separated to the chinese servers with the gold guns
we need more romania and more commonwealth

and we need ww1 which culd book end all the content everything between the start of ww1 and the end of ww2.
enlisted could explore ww2 in a way no one has including medal of honor and call of duty

There are 5 confirmed Chinese squads, it would be interesting to have more, but first I would like squads from other countries like Canada, Poland, Romania, Hungary, Finland, Bulgaria or Thailand

Agree, we only have one French squad in the game. I don’t really like copy and past, but in this case I think it makes sense to copy and past the MAS-36 and MAS-38 for the Western Allies and some squads with weapons that aren’t in the game too

Hungary, Bulgaria, Finland, Poland, Thailand etc also

In the future, if enlisted doesn’t die and we have enough maps in WWII, it would be cool go to WWI

Definitely, the problem is the gaijin who probably forgot enlisted Lol
