It still seems a bit goofy that you can accurately aim and fire these things from kneeling and even a standing position when in real life you would´t be able to. Would be great if along with that change their effectiveness against armor would be increased and reduced against Aircraft (seriously one AT rifle bullet shouldn´t rip a plane into 2 while a 20mm AA gun has problems doing the same).
It goes without saying that this should only happen if the Bipod mechanic got reworked into being more user friendly.
Also ATR bullets do have low penetration - they were not good weapons once tank armour got beyond 40mm - and pretty marginal at 30mm given angles of impact would never be optimal on a battlefield.
And they have very poor post-penetration damage - little or no spalling, and much of the bullet energy is used penetrating even 15-20mm armour, and then the bullet still has to hit something significant.
So no - I don’t see any reason to buff ATR’s - mythology about Soviet 14.5mm notwithstanding, they were not great AT weapons.
Actual spall caused by the bullet penetrating the armor. Right now the bullet only damages what the bullet hits so by adding a little spall you can damage crew by shooting near them. It doesn´t have to be much. Only enough to put pressure on the tank to for example make him reconsider his current actions.
Happened yesterday. 3rd time this happened btw. Bet you wish AAs did this much damage huh?
That´s my issue exactly. Give early game tank players a little buff by limiting AT rifle mobility but buffing AT rifles by adding a little spall so a penetrating hit is a little more rewarding since sniping crew or engine with AT rifles is a lot more challenging than the point and click experience that later AT weapons have.
I see this more as a give and take, changing up the dynamic if you will. AT rifle gain some but they also loose some.
It really depends on what plane you´re flying. Early war rustbuckets is relatively easy but the later stuff gets a bit rough.
It´s a good bang for your buck. I´m suprised it´s only BR I but with the current MM it doesn´t really matter if it´s BR I, II or III tbh. Fun fact, my wingman was that French plane also from Stalingrad. That guy did some solid work with that PoS.
Since the beginning I have only ever used AT rifles when bipoded. Could I just run and gun with them, yes, but that’s not immersive or fun in my opinion. I go the extra mile to bipod with them. I also primarily bipod with MGs
AA doesnt deal with lag induced desync very well. I play on both US and EU servers all the time and you literally have to aim differently depending on ping.
Often AA “not doing damage” seems to be just desync or something, like the HE explosion radius was applied late or whatever, dealing miniscule damage you can barely even see on the model, but enough to give you basically fake hit markers
Meanwhile often a single properly registered hit means you are donzo
Imo every gun with weight >10kg should be used mainly from bipod.
But we are long past the “semi-realistic” point in case of smallarms (see above) so we may as well add a gaus/plasma/lazer rifle as long as it has ww2 skin on it.
Funny thing is he was spamming shots at me and my buddy and was genuinely suprised when he saw my plane in the killfeed. I was already too far away for that to have been a carefully aimed shot. So much so that the tracer of the bullet was off target somehow.
That´s why I think adding spall as a post pen effect would help in making it´s use more rewarding. Especially since now it´s the only ranged AT option for beginners.
It got better in some aspects (LMGs aren´t handling like ARs anymore) but yeah that´s an unfortunate fact.
Better aim for the tracks. That´s a way AT rifles in real life got some use even when the tanks themselves got to heavily armored to deal with.
Armor in general still feels weird like in War Thunder where sometimes a tank just absorbs a shell it shouldn´t have.
