Assaulter Squad, Unique Construction: Ladders/ Infantry crossings

Now that AI are able to make use of ladders and climb through windows, I think its a great time to make this suggestion:

Similar to how MG squads can build HMGs, AT squads can build AT field guns, and Flamethrower squads can build Ampulomets, I think a great option for Assaulters would be ladders/ infantry crossings.

it would function a little bit different in terms of building than the other structures, as it would be adaptive!
From where the player is standing, they can look toward the point they wish to build the structure. If it has enough vertical incline (more than 45 degrees), it will become a ladder, but if its flat enough, it will act as an infantry crossing (bridge or ramp essentially).

Each 1m of distance that it covers will cost 1 resource point for the engineer.

This will allow for players to better traverse the terrain, opening up new pathways for infantry, and making even the most hectic locations (urban environments like in Berlin and Stalingrad) much more accessible.

Application Examples:

  • Onto rooftops or upper floors
  • From one rooftop to another
  • Over Barricades that might otherwise be too tall (even with increased jump)
  • Accessing upper windows of a location that might be heavily fortified on the main floor
  • Across streams or other low spots.

Great idea, why stop at ladders, add in assault pontoons as well so you can cross canals and rivers at a place of your own chosing !

If it gets into that kind of territory, they will also need to give a lot more viable options for defense fortifications.

In a lot of places, especially in the Pacific, the only saving grace as defenders is that those rivers exist to slow down and funnel attackers.
As of right now, defenders rarely get the opportunity to set up wire OUTSIDE of the capture, to actually slow enemies down in a meaningful way. Plus, even if they do, there is a major balancing issue where it requires an engineer to build it, but ANY troop type can break it down, at no cost. That needs to change.

Hey @EdVanSchleck , sorry to bother you, but could you weigh in on this? You usually have some good insights that help better shape suggestions.

Hi, sorry for being that late. Had business to attend.
The idea is generally nice but I am afraid that it won’t work with the current game design. I lean out of the window and say that this will cause much more bugs than benefits.
