Worth using the assault engis at br2 or 3 with some good semis? Is it just a worse eng squad until you give em assault rifles? Anyone got some exp with this?
If you want to use the german ones that get the special helmets there would be a niche benefit but for every other faction you would just sacrefice all specialist flexebility for what? A diffrent squad icon?
The other factions assault engies maybe are special due to their perk points so maybe there is something diffrent but otherwise they should be just a less flexible standart engie squad.

i have won the soviet ones in fact, and was planning to use the svt38 on em, they have the body armor and helmets
Its free armor I guess but TT engies can also buy that for orders so this isnt unique to the squad itself.
Uh… you can use regular engineers for semis.
And as such yes they’re great. No need to bring ammo bags (it’s even superfluous). Get where you want to attack, build an ammunition boxe, then shoot without restraint.
As for the assault engineers, since they’re the only engineers able to equip assault rifles (save rare premium engineers in assaulter squads), you’re better off giving them assault rifles.
