After almost 100hrs in this game, it´s safe to say for me that the worst mechanic abuse is artillery spam. Why not limit the amount of artillery use to 2, and bombing runs to 1 per player per objective in assault style game modes?
Played Invasion on Dominant Height North Ardennes, first objective completely in the open. Not only was the enemy crossfire horrible, making it very hard to reach the trenches, but the defenders called in artillery strike on artillery strike on artillery strike on the objective. If we made it through the crossifre, the artillery stomped us out the trenches.
I praise God every time someone on my team remembers that they can use artillery (and deploys it intelligently), and I tip my hat to the enemy that called in a well placed counter in turn.
My proplem is that people aren’t using enough artillery.
But, upon reflection, that I think artillery isn’t being used enough means it’s being used in precisly the right amount. It’d be excessive otherwise.
As for bombers…? I roll my eyes if my team calls them in, but my mouth salivates at the oppertunity for free points in the reverse… Actually, spawning a plane when allies call in bombers is free score, too… No one bothers with evasion when they’re trying to shoot down bombers.
Other then just basic Enlisted infantry guns, I die far more by artillery then any other weapon, including tanks and planes. Nothing irritates me more then to spawn, and within a couple seconds my entire squad is vaporized by artillery. The only thing better, is to spawn at another spawn point, and again, have your entire squad vaporized. Nice waste of tickets that you didn’t get to play.
I don’t think much can be done about it since I don’t hear a lot of people complain about it, although it annoys the f**k our of me.
I played a game once where there was an outdoor cap point, and there was so much artillery spam that no one could take anything because if you got anywhere near the cap point, both sides were instantly vaporized. The invaders lost because they had a limited number of tickets, where the defenders did not. It was not a real fun game.
I have thought about an overhaul where it takes a few minutes for the Artillery rain to start and guns spawn in the back and you can destroy them like bombing runs. It’s a counter and gives planes another job
Its annoying for sure, but also awesome if you nail it right. Also consider the fact it was one of the main forms of death in WW2 and WW1. At least they give you a warning so if you are not smart enough to move that is kind of on you. Imagine how annoying it would be without that area of effect.
It’s hard enough to hit people with bombing runs the battle often moves away before they hit, love to see the enemy waste them, no i say make the shorter hit all at once. Several times I have walked into one thinking it was finished. Maybe add more cover or move the points to an area of more cover. Or lock the area that just got hit for 30 seconds to a minute from getting hit again.
I think it would work. Yes sometimes battles are fast but they can be real grind fests where it takes a long time just to take one point
The Artillery delay would be shorter than Bombing runs because they’re supposed to be a faster, immediate support. So it gives you a minute or two to destroy the artillery guns as a counter
