Artillery really needs to be fixed.... this isn't a nerf artillery suggestion but a realistic fix

give each team a set amount of artillery shells they can use (to be realistic il say maybe 250-300 readily available shells)

have the shells restock at like 20-25 per minute

once your team runs out of shells make the radio operator’s call say “Artillery is out of ammo, you’ll have to wait till we got more shells over.”

Or we could just reduce the cooldown from 30 seconds to one minute. That way people don’t spam arty at start like they always do and other players cant even use their class for the purpose they spawned it in for if they don’t spawn it in at match start.

yea i suggested that a while back too but it got less then stellar response lol so i figured go with a more realistic system of actually having a physical artillery shell ammo count per team

still spam-able but if you chose to spam you might not have shells when you really need em :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I mean probably because its what everyone has been calling for for very long. I literally called it out that it would break the game on the day they implemented the patch and that it needed to be reduced to 45-60 seconds.

i still say ammo count for arti shells is the best middle ground, since if you got like 2 or 3 guys spamming artillery your team will end up running dry soo fast

instead of them just being a blind chance kill weapon they will actually be a commodity it’l encourage people to learn how to mark better lol

Then when someone spawns in their arty class 5 minutes into the game they will literally be useless cause they dont have any shells to shoot. It punishes those who dont immediately spawn in radiomen at match start. It would just make match start worse and after the first 5 minutes would effectively do what a time limit CD would do.

that’s only if your team is constantly burning up artillery shells like they’re child with their parents money in a candystore

restocking 20-25 per minute is like 2 strikes a minute, not super unrealistic time for the team on the ship to go and grab more shells from the ordnance hold

If theres a limit to resupply, that just means players are going to spam it more until its gone. Imagine being on a limited data plan with 9 random people. You all want to use your data and have no reason to wait later in the month to use it since it will all be gone since the others have used it. Relying on an “honor system” on a limited supply of something will never work because people will use it all for themselves and let everyone else suffer. This past year and a half is a great example as well.

well that’s where real teamwork comes in… if you got the 1 weak link just wasting shells its gonna effect your team badly

if you have a limited supply you’ll want to save it till you know you got a target and not just use it as a deterrent like deet deep woods bug spray

true people won’t get this concept in the beginning but they’ll learn that artillery is a really useful tool when you need to take out 3 rushing squads so you don’t just waste it on an empty building

Agreed, but mortars and bomber planes take priority in needing nerfing before that. At least you can attempt to run away from artillery because it lights up on the minimap.

True that. Not that they are actually dumb (they might be), but you can’t expect players to “understand” any mechanic. Give them a limited supply of shells and 1 out of 4 players will abuse it - there’s literally no incentive for them not to.

Increase the cooldown as well as the damage, to make it an effective weapon that is wasted if not used tactically.

you can run away from 1 artillery yes but not when 5 people honeycomb the area with constant strikes… its like what are you suppose to do then? sit in a drum circle round a firepit and tell stories in a house while your being shelled to high hell :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

like sure i could deal with the holy shit shelling long as i knew it was gonna inevitably come to a halt cause of a lack of ammo on the enemy teams end

Okay, I really like this idea. Sure it would take the game in a different direction but I think it would be totally worth it.

I reckon there are other ways to make artillery useful but less spammy.

New item binoculars: have to aquire target with binoculars to call in. This means you have to have line of sight to call in, and be exposed.

In the upgrade tree you could have. (To make it more interesting)

Mortar battery - current ability but slightly longer cool down

Smoke barrage/phosphorus (utility ability)

Heavy artillery. Either a Loooooong cool down or can’t have other optiins. Fires 2-3 precise heavy shots able to kill a stationary tank or clear a building

Arty wasn’t a problem until radio squads got the 30s cooldown.

Just get rid of that and make the radio squad bigger again.
No need to reinvent the wheel when the old system before the buff wasn’t broken.

line of sight is exceptionally unrealistic… that’s why radio operators had maps that were sectioned into grids… they could take the location from other allies if they know where they should put the shells down.

as for all those other abilities like the White Phosphorus Shell and switching to something like 600mm Karl-Gerät, the 460mm Type 94 or the 420mm Big Bertha shell that would fire 3-5 heavy ass shots depending on which cannon it was coming from i actually kinda like that idea :thinking:

The intention of LoS was to restrict spamming (synthetic idea). nothing to do with realism. but yeah.
