Artillery is now firecrackers and Bomber Planes are OP

After the nerf to artillery in the latest patches, it has become significantly and ahistorically weak. I played a full-length invasion match on D-Day w/ radio operators in every squad & a dedicated squad w/ frequent artillery - and I got a whooping 1 kill the entire match from artillery. This is ludicrous. And, yes, I aimed properly, I know where to target strikes.

In fact, artillery is now so weak that I don’t think even 10 people were killed by artillery during the whole match. I was struck by artillery a few times and, due to the new delays, I was able to evacuate with plenty of time - once I had two weak explosions on my sides and got slightly concussed, but that was it. I would argue that a player now has to be tactically incompetent, or extremely unlucky, in order to die from artillery strikes.

Seriously, that’s not a cannonade anymore, it’s firecrackers. Things weren’t different in other matches - I would cheer if I got 2 or 3 artillery kills in an entire match. Meanwhile bomber planes are now the most extremely OP thing in the entire game. The team’s bomber planer ALWAYS finishes first place, often with 2 to 3x more kills than the 2nd place. Each bombing run scores on average at least some 10 kills (compared to artillery strikes which now don’t average even 1 kill per strike). That’s not realistic, bombers didn’t do such damage to infantry (they preferred to strike buildings or vehicles, not soldiers on the field). In fact, historically, artillery was the main source of infantry casualties, but now it is an absolute joke. And this is not just a problem in regards to historicity, but it leaves a massive unbalance in the game, which is not good.

Something needs to change. Either nerf bombers, rollback some of the artillery changes (especially the extra-time before the strikes & the low-damage ranging shots) or do both because, currently, bomber planes are way overpowered and at least 2 to 3 times more effective than anything else in game. That’s not realistic, that’s not fun. Boom - 20 people die from a bomb dropped! Bot AI can’t take cover at all. Yet artillery was nerfed…

Artillery has been made so weak that despite the changes that now only allow 1 strike at a time (which were good, though I would argue each team should have 2 strikes, just like they can have 2 tanks), even with that, I had no problem calling in strikes whenever I wanted - because nobody seems to even bother using them anymore. That’s how weak they are. I feel like a fool for having added radio operators to my squads, in place of other troop classes, because they are now so severely weak.

Artillery and the frequent bombings - requiring people to play tactically, not mindlessly rush, and constantly take cover, as in real life - were one of the things that I really liked about this game. I would even argue that, in a Squads game, most of the kills should come from explosives (as was the case in world war 2). Now it has been partly ruined. Please do something about it.

Yeah CAS is ridiculous OP and broken, but arty seems fine with the new changes. As long as you place it in the right spot you can get kills easily especially on invasion maps

Sorry but no you did not aim properly and you did not know where to target. Otherwise you would have gotten more than 1 kill.

It is different now, ajust your playstyle before you say its stupid. Something you clearly have not done otherwise you would not get 1 kill with arty over a entire match.

Bombers have not changed at all, they have finished 1st place from release untill right now. I completely agree they need a nerf or a change in how they work. To easy to kill half a team with them.

Please no, there where scores of people who quit, where on the verge of quitting over the constant artillery shelling. There where daily posts to nerf artillery with hundreds of responses. Finally we got what we wanted and can actually play the game now.

Arty is fine, before it was unplayable and anti fun, having constant red circles is extremely unfun and you can’t even aim no matter what.

This is a pretty astute observation.

I think the timer nerfs are viable, the “bridge too far” is only allowing one arty per team at any one time. This is opens up the game to “run and gun” from other FPS games which are infantry centric. What I like about the Squads mode is that hitherto unexplored aspect of commanding an AI squad which is progressing well. You AI will get smarter over time and I truly believe that this will be a unique differentiator for enlisted going into the future. So AI reactions to arty aside, the fix for this is quite simple.

  1. Remove the one player calling down arty at a time constraint. The current timers for optimised radio squad arty are ok. This will still allow players to set up suppressive and blocking barrages, which need to be negotiated by getting down. To assist players here the AI bots need to respond to player stances a lot quicker. If the player goes prone all the AI need to drop as well. If the player couches then all the AI crouch too. This will at least assist in reducing AI stupidity, because if I hear bombs coming in and I hit the deck the shrapnel effect should be lessened if I’m out of the immediate lethality zone.

and WRT the Attacker Aircraft

  1. Fix the AA guns - they need to damage aircraft more effectively. Your current aircraft damage models are broken. You should also consider updating your AA to be more historical so Quad Maxims for the Soviets and a single barrel 2cm Flak38 for the Germans in the initial Engineer build. For the second level Engineer build you can introduce the current 2cm Flakvierling 38 for the Germans and a M1939 (61-K) for the Soviets. Both AAs should have a selection of appropriate ammo for the period.

An alternative adjustment to aircraft bombing can be considered as follows:
Players can spawn into aircraft immediately on game start if they want so that air domination/superiority contest can commence from the start. Planes can strafe the ground if they wish but no bombs or rockets, those can only be dropped on an identified enemy marker created by the ground team. This gives you a bit more of a historically abstracted call for air support to the ground battle rather than indiscriminate bombing that is occurring right now.
In terms of bomb effects set up a radius of some feasible size from the marker as the bomb effective zone, and if the bombs land outside of it, they just don’t explode - ie their fuse failed to function etc…

I agree that planes needs to be tuned down. but what comes to artillery I think the patch fixed atleast some of the problems it had. Do we really want people to stay behind the safe zone and spam non stop artillery? It may be fun for the radio operator but ain’t sure fun to the people that are defending on the point or people who attack to that small cap zone. How I see the artillery strike is now used as a supressive fire for people to advance to the point or holding people advancing forward. If you use it as a “tool” rather than easy way to farm kills people will find ways to use it efficiently. If you just stay behind and wait for the cooldowns I think you play that squad wrong.

What comes to history I would rather balance the game so that people can have good time playing instead of picking “facts” that are not historically accurate.

Game was fun becouse it was lethal , arty spam was no fun either !
but this is nerf to oblivion and even worse then mortar nerf !
next they gonna nerf the planes to make the useless with just a few more months of crying on forums !
think they allready nerfed the tanks tho now gunner sight jumps up and down so hard make me wanna throw up !

Yes that would be great, all the 0 skill garbage that rewards you with tons of kills with 0 effort nerfed, mortar, artillery and hopefully garbage planes, now that would be a great game.

plane at start was sooo hard to control so was alot of skill… yea now is 0 skill press button and laugh at bots !!!.. becouse players have left the game lol

I’ve still been getting tank kills with arty.
Maybe learn to make it count now that you can’t spam it.

Doesn’t make that much of an impact until planes get nerfed, planes are still the major issue,
