I have an absolute love hate relationship with the tanks in this game.
On the one had I love them being in the game, the combined arms idea adds to the immersion and weight of battle.
But on the other hand, my god they need reworking, or just changing, whether in map design or in role.
I’m fed up of joining a battle, only to find that we cannot push the capture point, because the enemy has a tank camping in a hull down position in their ‘grey zone’ which makes it neigh on impossible to push the objective. Whether the objective is in the open or in a building, the tank has dominating views, prevent all but a few soldiers from getting through, only to be mopped up by the players not camping.
These will be the matches where someone gets over 150 or so kills, and hogs the tank, while the next person is lucky to get half as many.
Dealing with these players often results in relying on the RNG of a tank being able to fire back first, killing it hull down. or the suicide plane option, which is frankly no better, but at least it solves the problem.
The uselessness of AT rifles (And the fact they are out of reach in their gray zone) makes they unable to be dealt with using conventional tactics of detpacks or mines.
AT guns, via the engineer, takes too long just to deal with one tank, and the moveable guns seem to be abit bugged out at the moment, as I have never been able to actually move one.
So, how best to change it?
That, I don’t know, other than either drawing back the defenders grey zone (which would also make artillery strikes on these tanks a viable option (smoke or HE)) as well as conventional methods.
While agree AT guns need changing to be more powerful, you’ve already mentioned the solution - bomb them. That’s literally what planes are for. As you said it’s a combined arms game and that is the hard counter to the tank. Use it. Yes its annoying when bad players hog it, but that’s simply a case of shit happens.
This is a great suggestion, I would also put back the defenders spawn points, too often it happens that I am shooting guys who are spawn protected.
Well, if it bothers you so much that a tank is located at the top of a hill and stays there throughout the game killing everything that moves, the solutions to kill it would be:
_Destroy it with one of the bombs carried by planes
_Running through the gray zone with an anti-tank weapon or a charge
demolition to destroy it (it’s almost suicide to do this but it works)
_ Take out a tank and destroy it (in case the enemy tank is higher than yours, just point it at the cannon and destroy it then point a little to the side and shoot with that you can destroy the enemy tank’s machine gun and the tank will be completely useless and force it to go down the crew and you can kill them, if in case the enemy manages to repair the tank repeat the process)
_With an engineer build an AT cannon and destroy it
Issue with this is when a tank sits on a bridge (such as gorge in Tunisia), the bomb sometimes glitches through the bridge exploding harmlessly in the water below.
(Tested by suicide bombing, i actually hit the tank with the plane just after jettisoning the payload but the bomb jusr fell through the map)
I dont particularly want to waste squads running into the grey zone just to kill a tank either and normally get killed long before i get anywhere near.
Don’t get me wrong, i usually try and remove these campers quickly, but my main post is that something needs to be done by the devs to counter this. As suicide plane/ detpacking shouldn’t be the solution. Nor should praying that an M13/40 can take out a Grant etc.
Exactly, I understand your annoyance of having to deal with those players who are located in the other corner of the map with only the purpose of killing, I only gave you a couple of solutions, but the only way to stop those campers is with the artillery of smoke, and I hope that with the next “big update” I finally implement smoke artillery for all armies.
Stationary tank is easy to bomb, even if it’s not marked. It is a bother to spawn in attacker just for that but what else can you do? I actually wish that more people would camp tanks from gray zone. Just to make det packs irrelevant and finally fixed.
Tanks should be deadly when kept at the long range. At mid/close range they could be dealt with AT squads and at close ranger we just need to AT grenades and attachable satchel charges or limpet mines.
Right now tanks are not afraid of mid range as virtually all AT weapons, except bazooka and faust, are mostly useless. They can do damage but there is little to zero incentive to use them.
If you move grey zone further away, then even more tnt will be used. It will only contribute to the issue as even less people will carry AT rifles and etc. Less tnt - more tanks moving into mid and close range.
Also would like to add that some players (I’d probably say most actually) don’t even have planes equipped. I often times play whitout premium leading me to either chose a plane or a tank as my vehichle of choice.
just another reason for no vehicles filter, I already made a thread asking. Seems they can’t make small options for the game to appeal to many more people, they don’t want money?
