[Anti-Aircraft Canon] Buff AA

It’s honestly the easiest and simplest solution for planes. Buff the AA and all of us raging about bombers would be much less.

As it stands AA only get 40 bullets, have to reload after every 10, and can only reliably hit targets if they’re very close and looking right at it.

All that needs to be done is increase the amount of bullets the AA has to maybe 100, make the clips 25 long instead of the pitiful 10 5 seconds of shooting before having to reload for 10 seconds. Increase the amount of damage they do, then boom! Balanced planes!

Cause it really sucks when nobody on your team brought any planes so a single guy racks up 200+ kills just because they can use their bomber the entire freaking game.

They currently one-shot planes, at least the planes available in the moscow campaign. How often you can reliably hit a plane is mostly a skill issue, but it could be made easier by increasing the bullet velocity of the AA gun.

For the love of God do not give AAA 25 shot magazines, they’re already OP against infantry with 10 shot mags.

If you locked the elevation so it couldnt be lowered to point perfectly flat it would lesson the effectiveness against infantry. You already cant build them on uneven terrain so you couldnt really cheese it and build it on a large slope

And, allow us to place a bot on the AA gun who focuses solely on planes, shoots them down with high accuracy and will never move from it no matter where the rest of the squad goes.

Also, the blast radius of bombs is too wide considering how small the maps in this game are.

One shot planes? Hahah you must be joking. The AA uses a caliber that is smaller then many of the planes you get to fly which still take forever to shoot down other planes. Yes 20mm is a good AA caliber but it’s not going to one tap a plane, that’s just fantasy.

Also it never even dawned on me to use AA against infantry. I’ve never seen it and never done it in my 20 hours of playing. But that could easily be fixed by forcing a 10-15 degree minimum elevation. Cause as it stands AA is trash against planes with the small clip, low ammunition count, long clip reload, and very slow velocity and high bullet drop.

how about this, squad mate can fill role in AA to buff it’s stats like reload speed, rotation speed, etc significantly

btw arent flak are supposed to have 20 bullet per gun? like wirblewind in war thunder,

And why would you limit it not to be able to shoot on infantry? It’s an effective area denial weapon and regarding that is fine as it is. You don’t challenge an MG34 with pistol on 100m range also.

We wrote many times that it should not be hammered by a hammer but have its own team/squad that should move and set it around.

Aircraft HP is currently too high, but you are mixing apples and oranges. Fix that and this one barreled gun can deal with aircraft, doesn’t have a shield so is not op against infantry, but if placed correctly can be deadly.

Yes you are correct. Those mags had 20 rounds in them.

Yeah, I’ve unlocked the bombers and damn, they play havoc on the enemy if it’s aimed properly. Even if it’s not aimed properly but is relatively it tends to kill/wound at least 1+ enemies but when it’s on-target and they’re there in droves, I’ve had multiple occasions where I scored 7+ immediate killed (sometimes including a tank) in just one bombing. Pretty awesome, but yeah, for players it sucks.

Firstly, at least in my experience, you cannot be a bomber for an entire match. You run out of fuel over time and eventually you struggle just to keep the plane in the air. Inevitably, you either have to land or crash, usually crash, at least in my experience. It’s damn hard to land those things without hitting something or just falling/going too quickly. But yeah you can get SEVERAL bombing runs done within that time.

Secondly, granted I haven’t used the AAA guns in quite a while but I’ve taken down a few planes with it. I find that my best opportunity to get some hits is to turn it in the direction the plane is going and shoot at it from behind. Very rarely am I able to be facing where the plane is coming from. For some reason, even with my quite nice headset giving me stereo sound, judging WHERE the plane is is very difficult unless I manage to see it with my own eyes (which are nearly better than 20/20 vision based on when I did my medical trying to join the Military), but often I don’t know until the triangle appears and by then if I’m not already aimed in that direction I find it’s often too late. Better to just go and aim at where the plane will be flying away. It can be decently effective, but yes it is difficult, and multiple times when I failed to take down the enemy plane, it then comes around later and bombs the bajeezus out of me and/or my squad.

Thirdly, the bombers are a BIT defenseless in the air I find, you REALLY want a capable fighter up there in a nimble plane that can fly fast and turn quick. The bomber is far slower at turning, I find in comparison to the rocket-firing planes, the bomber that holds I think four 250lb bombs or whatever it is feels like you’re flying a conveniently-shaped stone that is more inclined to fall than to fly or turn. Those smaller planes that are less capable at attacking the ground, seem much more adept at attacking in the air. Many times I’ve spawned as the bomber, got one load of ordnance delivered, sometimes resulting in few-to-no kills, and then an enemy plane manages to gun me down. Quite annoying, but that’s just how it goes it seems.

Ultimately, planes go fast. That’s why for air combat you want as high a rate of fire as you can get, which is why the M1919s made for planes have a ridiculous rate of fire of like 1300-1400 RPM or something like that. The ‘Stinger’ firearm that won someone a medal of honor, it was one of those aircraft M1919 firearms with an M1 Garand stock on it and an M1918A2 (or A1 I guess, don’t know which, probably A2) bipod. The reason for the high rate of fire for aircraft is because your window of opportunity for hitting an enemy aircraft can be quite brief so you want as MUCH firepower sent to them as possible. Being on the ground probably don’t make it much easier, so the difficulty in getting hits is inherent. Just follow the crosshair that shows where you have to aim to get a hit, and practice.

Like any skill, the more time you spend on something, the better you will get, and bombers ought to be easier to hit since they’re bigger and slower than the smaller planes with the rockets.

Also, since every shot has four barrels firing, those 10 rounds at a time that you shoot is apparently 40 rounds. The 40 rounds you have at the ready is actually, apparently, 160 rounds, and isn’t it 20mm or something? Not sure, I know WAY more about small-arms than about AA stuff, I’m still trying to see if it’s even possible to shoot down aircraft with an M1918A1 or BREN. Thus far it seems I haven’t managed though when I have the opportunity, I do unload a mag or two at an enemy aircraft, judging for myself just how far ahead I need to aim in order to hit it. Either I’ve yet to actually HIT an enemy aircraft in flight, or you don’t get an ‘X’ when you’re actually successful in hitting it with small-arms.

Ok yeah I agree with this! I was just trying to appease that other dude who’s was ranting about AA OP!

Oh and another thing, the spawns would have to function differently if we made AA, and AT crews instead, since it’d take forever to wheel that thing through a bumpy forest with weeds slowing you down and barbed wire like the current German Normandy spawns are.

These squads should have access to transport. Opel Blitz, Kubelwagen, Jeep and so on.

But I don’t know how hard is that for dev team to develop.

Yes! This would be great, give them a utility vehicle and a tank spawn so they can wheel is around to wherever you want, then the ability to unfix from the vehicle. We also have to buff the ammunition, and speed of AT and AA guns a lot to compensate. I mean AT gun only gets 20 rounds 10 of which are HE…

Yeah, its real pain in the ass to shoot 10 shells at enemy tanks and then destroy the gun and re hammer it again.

At least give us ability to somehow resupply AT and AA guns

Never experienced this. Maybe you had oil or fuel a leak or something as currently all planes are set to max fuel.

Biggest problem now is rendering distance for enemy planes and suicide players. I just tested it, stayed the whole game in 109 and managed to shoot down 3 of them. Counted 10+ enemy planes just suicide bombing. And people will continue doing it if they have no penalty for themselves or their team. Who is it hurting the most? People in fighters that actually want to shoot enemy planes.

I see. I had been experimenting with going with 55-65 throttle or so, when before I’d keep it at 110 the entire game. So if I just decrease it to 109, I’ll never run out of fuel? I can’t say 100% that every time my plane loses power and dies, it is damaged. That said, I doubt I could fly a plane through a whole match without receiving any damage whatsoever so I’m not going to claim that my plane was undamaged.

As for the plane suicide bombers, yeah that’s rather annoying in terms of it being unrealistic… if they were Japanese then that would be another matter, but German/American, and totally unharmed planes? Nah. As for punishing the team, that CANNOT be the answer. For any who are annoyed by it, and I’m not particularly, it would become even MORE annoying and to MORE people. It should be, somehow, punishing for the player to do it. To crash an undamaged plane that is also not low on fuel, like for instance they cannot access planes again for the rest of the match, or a minimum of like 5-10 minutes must pass by before they will have another opportunity, assuming there’s even any positions available. Though, that would become a pain in the butt for anyone who is actually capable at flying, but has a bad dive and then BOOM. “What?! I can’t be a pilot again for how long?! IT WAS AN ACCIDENT!” Perhaps upon using the rockets/bombs, and resupplying, the penalty/punishment will be waved if they happen to crash without any damage to the plane and with plenty of fuel in the tank.

I have actually spent several minutes during the flight from the battlefield to the resupply trying to figure out which friggin’ dial or whatever is the fuel gauge. Some of the gauges actually function, but I think many or most of them don’t actually reflect any real information.

You will run out of fuel, but I think not in the length of one game. Maybe Yak will run out of fuel but I think not.

Its a tough question on how to punish the player. I would actually like them to lock the planes for all players that have not passed particular training or something. When devs actually make one that teaches the players something.

Not a half-bad idea, though thankfully they have a pretty good practice field in which you can fly around and get a feel for what it’s like. But yeah, I’d LOVE some actual training. I’ve gotten good at judging where the bombs end up dropping, but it’s still a bit of hit-or-miss. I don’t know if I’m doing it right, all I know is that I often get good results with those big 250-500lb bombs or whatever weight they are. You get four of 'em and drop two at a time. I stay down around 250m elevation or so, within about 1250-1500m I angle the plane down and I fire as I hone in on the point I’m aiming for, and basically keep hammering them with mostly useless MG fire until I figure I have JUST enough time to pull up and avoid crashing. I open the first bomb-bay doors JUST before or JUST as I pull up, and the second bomb-bay doors are opened 1-2 seconds later as I am pulling up. If I’m indeed aiming correctly, and by correctly I mean for the correct side of the line of infantry down below (meaning, drop it in the direction they’re all shooting), then I typically get 7+ instant kills, generally with some stragglers popping up as kills as they’re finished off by ground troops. Getting 11+ can occur as well, I find.

Does that sound like a reasonable method to you? I’ve gotten pretty decent at it but I still don’t know if I’m doing it right, would be nice if there was some kind of window down below with some sort of aiming assist to use to indicate where your bombs will be dropped, but it seems we’re left with guesswork.

Yes, that is good method for pinpoint bombing. You can expect even better results if you squad up and the other player is actively marking enemy concentrations.

If you really want to practice precise bombing, you can do it on practice range. Pick a tank and try to bomb it pinpoint.
