Another thread about the cursed flamethrowers

Hey there. I want to add my voice to the choir of people complaining about the flamethrower. It should not penetrate walls. Especially not when we play a gamemode that forces troops to crowd onto an objective.

There is no counterplay, besides being far away and losing, because cover does nothing. It is exactly the same problem we used to have with 15-second cooldown artillery strikes, and massive bombs that covered half the map.

Nobody wants to do the objective, because trying to do the objective, is objectively a death sentence. You get spammed with crowd control and damage ticks (while the flamethrower guy just has to spray randomly in the general direction of the enemy), squad gets insta wiped. Impossible to fight back effectively.

This creates boring horrible gameplay, with 90% of humans choosing to sit back and farm kills (which is also why premades steamroll so easily). I even hate my own team’s flamethrowers because they never aim and always light everything on fire, making it even more impossible to fight for objectives. I use the damn thing too, but I hoped that my extreme fire abuse would be disabled by now. This needs to be fixed months ago.

Alternate solution: Give me a charge option when set on fire, even if not wielding a melee weapon. Give me the option to tackle the flame guy to the ground and take him out with me, if he doesn’t focus fire as I charge.

my biggest issue with flamethrowers is that you can’t reload your weapon if you are on fire, it matter if weapon’s animation can finish in the time it takes for the fire tick to reset it

Oh yeah, that. I hate that too. Watching my soldier have a stroke every time that happens is yucky.

Heya, devs working on some stuff about fire, so stay tuned)

so you’re saying there is no crowd control effect on flamethrowers, ok
ill just go shoot him through the wall then

Very nice, looking forward to seeing it

Flamethrower is kinds of much more OP stuff in CQB. Much more powerful than shotguns. While literally not many players are using shotguns.
Actually, I HATE team players using flamethrowers. If you are also trying to do CQB with a team flamethrower. You literally have 0 gameplay. Entire screen is blocked by his flame. And sometimes, his fire lit up entire sector area. Making impossible to stay in the capture point. Also, taking most of kills from you. Because you dont have much to shot either.

Flamethrowers are some of the most annoying weapons in battle both friendly and enemy ones especially the former where you can’t just go through the path or you get burned too even if its from a friendly which is so annoying alongside molotovs.

They are much worse than some guy with two flamethrower squads + molotov/WP.

Looking at recent plans for plane loadout changes, please don’t overdo it.
The main thing to fix is excessive flame penetration through solid walls.

Dev always over correct balance changes. Remember when flamethrower was useless?

Have you tried shooting the enemy before they shoot at you while they’re not in the objective

Yes, that’s what I’m doing when I catch fire from some guy spraying from behind a wall and a floor, nowhere near any line of sight

IMO All that needs to be done is,

  • Through wall fix
  • spontaneously combusting when walking past a flame (give similar natural resistance flame trooper has to everyone)

That should be almost enough because after rework, EVERYONE wiill have the perk to put flame out quicker cos it only costs 1 point…and it may even be one of the stackable ones.

Counterplay is that they have an obvious flamethrower backpack and are an infantry man who dies in a few shots to just about anything stronger than a boltaction

only nerf the penetration of the flame through materials.
do not nerf flamethrowers
yes they are hated but man
is a FLAMETHROWER.
what do you think you can do when you are on fire ?

i dont want to see guys tanking shots nor flames.

It wouldn’t be AS bad if defenders were at least allowed to know where the objective was going to be, getting the chance to set up wire and defenses out in FRONT of the objective, rather than INSIDE the objective. The rare occasion that I’m able to set up in advance (due to a guaranteed objective location rather than having to guess), barbwire and mines are decent about holding them back far enough that they can be dealt with for the most part.

HOWEVER, I agree that the burning through walls definitely needs to be fixed, as sandbags blocking the flame jet should protect the players, but does not currently.

I think it is quite safe to assume that most perks will get their cost in points recalculated, when the new system rolls out.

I think this should be removed. Just simply having a flamethrower shouldn’t give you fire resistance, nor does it in reality. It just gives an excuse for the flamethrower spammers to be careless and therefore more dangerous.
