Since another thread has popped up for whining about allies (oh, how bad they are—don’t want to build, don’t want to win, blah blah blah), I’d like to join in and whine too. But not about comrades— about the game in general. And, at the same time, about those ‘victory-at-all-costs’ enthusiasts.
In my opinion, the problem is that matches are often won not by the more skilled teams, but by the meatier ones. And playing for the win brings no satisfaction at all.
The screenshot below shows a prime example: the losing team had a massive skill advantage but… lost because they refused to trade squads on the points (If you’re not going for the objective, then you don’t need rally points either. Makes sense, right?). Accordingly, the fight was fun, but doomed in advance, as sooner or later your points will be gnawed away by people running onto the point even 1 person at a time for 1 second.
And no, this isn’t me crying “I’m so good but I keep losing”—there are opposite examples where I’ve won in a much weaker team while barely doing anything. That’s just as unsatisfying. And in matches like these, I have no desire to put in any effort to make a weaker team win. But just shooting for fun? I’m always up for that.
Interestingly, this isn’t an issue in Lone Fighters mode at all. Simply because you can’t even reach the point against a stronger team; you die the moment you’re spotted, there are no ‘extra lives,’ there’s also no sense in putting a spawn point 50 meters from the objective, as you’ll be instantly killed there every single time. But the Lone Fighters mode is currently almost dead and lacks any proper settings.
I could, of course, write up a ton of suggestions in the relevant section — about a radical increase in capture point sizes and about a frontline system — but it’s obvious that this will never be implemented. So, it’s just another post of whining for the sake of whining, yeah.
