Did you know that during world war 2, as far as I understand the German army had various units adapt POWs to carry ammo boxes for the Machine gunners which essentially increased their ammo capacity dramatically. But it was not just POWs that assisted machinegunners, because the MG chews up ammo like crazy there was dedicated squad member to carry the boxes. There were about 2 per person.
So the idea is you go into the squad upgrade and choose the ammo carrier as special like with radioman or at gunner or assaulter. Later on you can choose another. The problem and game balancing concept, if the ammo carrier is shot you loose the ammo but you have a chance to collect the boxes which then causes you to move slower and react slower making your life difficult. If the ammo carrier person is alive and well, you are doing well…
Now, I didnt know about this when I asked about something very similar, and that is that you can get infinite ammo, one magazine/clip at a time from any AI in your squad.
This is basically the concept. Your mg gunner which has binoculars sits on the GM here, the Ammocarrier sits next to him with a cannister of ammunition helping him mark potential targets.
For a new squad looks interesting and looks good i guess/realistic but want to say the same thing what the first one sayed allready and in that case noooo they should adding sub trees what we all want or more important things whats good for the gameplay
Just simplely add dropable ammo crate as rifleman weapon. If you want to have backpack he can only have pistol, or you can choose secendry arms so he can bring gun and ammo crate
I like the realism and as you say machine guns go through ammo like crazy so having someone there to keep it refilled would be great.
On the other hand many players would question the need given that we have engineers who build ammo boxes.
Engineers of course usually get killed, can run out of parts, ammo boxes can be destroyed and it’s often not practical to keep building and destroying and building ammo boxes as you run around to different spots with your MG.
I dont like the squad upgrade system as it is given that we have to ignore various specialists just to get necessities like engineers (partly due to the ammo issue)
In real life you always had like one medic, one LMG man, few guys with rifles, couple guys with SMGs, a sniper etc. You didnt have to choose one or the other.
So your suggestion would just mean another annoying compromise.
Maybe instead of a squad upgrade we could unlock ammo pouches like guerillas have that can assist other soldiers with extra ammo (sort of like a med kit) and players can give those to a maximum of 1 or 2 soldiers in a squad who become your ammo carriers in addition to their regular role and as you mention the extra ammo would reduce their stamina and rate of running.
Note that while somewhat similar to the existing command for AI soldiers to give you their extra ammo it is not the same as this pouch would be like the equivalent of two Large Ammo Pouches that are exclusively for resupplying other weapons in your squad.
