At some point in the future WWII material will be exhausted. It can go no further than 1945. If there is nothing new then the game will die or have a small faithful player base. So, the game must be allowed to evolve past 1945.

If we have an alternative history update then we can keep WWII going on past 1945 and perhaps indefinitely. For the traditionalists out there, it will still be WWII, just an alternative history. In the alternative history the AXIS can push the Allies back and then invade The UK. It is the ONLY way the game can move beyond 1945. DEVS could do numerous things with an alternative history update. The game would no longer be a ‘side project’, but Gaijins main project (which is what i want because WT is a bad game IMO).

New players will play based on a post 1945 WWII update. The main reason the player base is small is because it only covers the second world war years. If we stretch those years out indefinitely then the player base will definitely grow. WWII in 2026.

In the update the DEVS could bring the Soviets back into the AXIS after thwarting the beach landing. That would allow us to play Soviets and Germans V Allies. The last time i suggested the AXIS taking Britain someone claimed they couldnt. Dont want to hear this type of nay-sayer nonsense. Unarmed criminals cross the English Channel every day on small boats (rubber dinghies) so please don’t tell me the AXIS couldnt invade. Anyway, it is for the benefit of the game and its players. The more that play, the more money for Gaijin and the more fun for the player. Let and encourage Gaijin to evolve the game in the future with an Alternative History update:

Maps; an alternative history would give the Devs some much needed freedom. They wouldnt have to be historically specific and would face a lot less criticism for ‘historical inaccuracy’ (lol). Defeating the allies on the beaches (Gaijin can create us a movie to explain the AXIS victory and teaming up with the Soviets again before invading The UK (new alternative history maps of the UK in 1946. Fun and freedom for the Devs); or the AXIS invading USSR after holding off the Allies and concentrating their troops on the Russian front (new alternative history maps. Again, good fun and freedom for the Devs). The maps would no longer be repeated requests for a limited number of historical battles; it would be a complete mystery what fictional (alternative history) map the Devs will create next. I would say an alliance between Axis and the Soviets would be more interesting, so maps of the UK will be the Major update: Alternative Histories (plural because we do not know which path the war will take next). The Soviets again part of The Axis, this would probably result in The UK ultimately being taken by The Axis. This will lead to the next updates. There would be mass exodus from the UK to The USA and from there The Allies will make their stand; either further battles in the UK and Europe or the AXIS continuing their momentum and conquering the atlantic and pacific which will be easier with The Soviets in The Axis. Maps in the USA in the 50s with a lengthy video by Gaijin explaining the alternative history. This would be the second major Alternative History update; either an invasion of The USA by the now larger AXIS force, or a counter offensive by the Allies against western Europe and Africa.

This update will allow the game to move beyond 1945 but STILL be WWII. Would other nations expand miltarily and join The Axis (Vietnam etc). What would have happened to China. With this update the scope for the game is LIMITLESS and therefore so are the MAPS and scenarios. Let the game advance and give the developers some much needed fun and freedom.

The alternative history will allow for new factions post 1945 entering the war; China; a rejuvenated Italy; Vietnam. It will also allow for minor updates before the second major update (‘invasion of The Americas’/Or ‘Counter Offensive’-based on Gaijins homework(again we will get a well made video explaining the alternative history)); battle for Scandinavia (including Greenland). Axis will likely take Scandinavia and then Invasion of the Americas will happen. This update allows WWII to go on forever and the game to go on forever.

Also, because the alternative history is entirely conjecture we can basically tell Gaijin what way we want the War (game) to go. You are sick of the same factions fighting each other? Then Gaijin are lsitening and will give us what we want. For example; ‘Putins betrayal of Merkl’ update in 2046 (set in 2020) because for the past 12 years we have only been fighting the same faction v faction battles. Lets mix it up. Of course, if the war had not ended and was ongoing the Millenium Dome in London wouldnt have been built. There wouldnt be much time for building anything other than military structures so it will not look like it does today.

‘Alternative History-Forever War’ will allow the game to advance/develop after the WWII (up to 1945) equipment and maps are exhausted-which is inevitable. It will allow the game to develop and exist indefinitely (potentially competing with as one of the best FPS’) while still being WWII at its core. WWII forever is an exciting idea and gives us a world of WWII maps that goes into the future without limit.

Finding a plausible way for The Germans to win on two fronts is maybe not possible so we will have to work out the the Axis victory. Even if we have to divide the game/player base and offer two modes: 1938-1945; and ‘Alternative history WWII 1945-0000’ then at least it is better than us being stuck in 1945 forever. I believe such an update will create a lot of interest from new players anyway, so dividing the player base might be possible.

No reason to do this when they can just push into the cold war. Korea basicly lets USSR fight Allies, things like the fulga gap could work too. (although that leans into AH teritory) Of course players should have the option to block this and stay at WW2. AH is a very bad idea for enlisted in general.

Their is so much wrong with this statement but I will try to break down some of it.

  1. It happened much less often than you think.
  2. It only worked because they were small boats not a massive invasion fleet.
  3. You think that the wouldnt have done it if they could? My guy…
Just look into Op Sealion, theres a reason they didnt go through with it.

I just thought post war is all a bit boring. The whole world is not at war like it was in the 40s and obviously any update will be predictable and therefore eventually boring. With an AH we would not only keep the whole world at war, we would not know what will happen next. We won’t even know what weapons will become available because there can be many variants of post-war military equipment based on multiple storylines. New unique maps, and new non-existing mods (just mods/variants. Not laser guns. All within reason) of guns etc based on an AH. Advanced development based on the world at war status; 15 years ahead of time because of the emphasis and need for military development. So we could have todays weapons in a WWII world in 2011 for example. I want to fight in New york in 1955 as AXIS (including Soviets). Also…we don’t know how the war will go at some points. A forever stalemate with the Allies safe in North America? A long term ground war in a divided America because they couldnt stop the AXIS landing? We can work it out wit the Devs or they can work it out themselves.

Staying at WWII means there is sense of dissatisfaction when ‘winning’ with the Axis because you know you’ve lost in the real world anyway. No matter how easily you defeated the Allies and Soviets. An AH allows the Axis to lose these battles but with the obvious capability of pushing back (as we all win with the Axis…all the way back to the landing points. So i just think we could incorporate this within an AH. Otherwise it’s over in '45 and we know who won, in spite of our hardest efforts. However, AH means the fight goes on indefinitely and anything could happen in the future. Whereas in the real world it is already written or has yet to happen but WILL be written. Let’s steal a march and predict a future of a past that didn’t happen…

In an alternate history, hopefully my AI bots actually follow orders.

Lol. ‘HOLD THAT POSITION’. “NO SIR, I CAN HEAR GUNFIRE. THERE’S A BULLET WITH MY NAME ON IT. IM GOING HEAD FIRST OUT OF THE WINDOW”. BANG. Dead. Bye Bye AT gunner. Who’s next?

My sniper. Stupid question. He might be out before the AT gunner.

Depending on what we consider an alternative, it is fashionable to introduce prototypes and small-scale experimental types of weapons that were designed before the 45th year and simply did not have time or there was no benefit in rearming the army.
in general, there is a lot that can be added
there would be a desire, but the developer clearly does not intend to introduce that variety of weapons and interesting mechanics, profit is important to him.
and an attempt to cash in on people may well be an excuse to go over your principles, which are not eternal, going beyond WWII is a matter of finance, they will do it, they will not want to introduce prototypes and small-scale things,You just buy what they shove in your face.

I get the appeal. I’ve also thought about what an alternate-history WWII game — something along the lines of the old Panzer Front — would look like, and the idea genuinely has merit.

The upsides are obvious:

  1. A fresh setting that, like WWII itself, never really gets old.
  2. Weapon progression no competitor can just copy — E-series tanks, post-war Soviet and German experimental small arms, even a Wolfenstein-style art direction.
  3. A virtually limitless backdrop for campaigns and scenarios.

But here’s the reality check. As much as I’d love to see it, alternate history is dead on arrival in this game — for three reasons.

First, Darkflow’s update cadence and planning. Look at the last few years of updates and tell me you see a clear direction, because I don’t. It reads like the kind of patchwork a studio does right before it shuts down — plugging holes, not building toward anything. This is not a team that’s going to suddenly execute an ambitious, years-long alternate-history roadmap.

Second, the double standard around “historical accuracy.” Gaijin and Darkflow wave the “history” flag constantly — to justify balance changes that make no sense, to cover up their own unfinished work, and to shut down player feedback. It’s a shield they hide behind, and it conveniently never restricts them. That same shield is exactly why alternate history is untouchable: an AH update would force them to abandon the one excuse they lean on daily. They’ll never allow it.

Third, a chunk of the playerbase is here specifically for the WWII history. Never mind whether the game still has anything to do with WWII after The Merge and all these updates — the moment you say “alternate history,” those players will be the first in line to say no, right alongside the devs.

So in short: alternate history has no chance here. And honestly? You asked what I think — this game is already dead. Great idea, wrong game, wrong studio, wrong moment

Honestly, even if alternate history is never coming to this game, there’s nothing stopping us from just… discussing the structure of it for fun. No mods care, nobody’s watching. But for the record — my problem with the OP’s take isn’t that it’s alternate history. It’s that it’s not derivation, it’s just vibes. Proper alt-history doesn’t jump straight to “Axis invades Britain.” You pick a node, you rewrite it, and then every step after that has to follow from a real causal chain.

So here’s a little thing I’ve tinkered with in my own head — a “what if” for the Eastern Front.
That must be in May 1943
What if the Third Reich made a different call right after May 1943 — the kind of change that would cascade through the rest of the war?

  • Early May 1943: Hitler has a sudden flash of insight and postpones Operation Citadel to July — but doesn’t cancel it.
  • May 15: Hitler adopts a joint memorandum from Manstein and Guderian, signing Führer Directive No. 11:
    1. Terminate Citadel immediately.
    2. Withdraw the main force to the Wotan Line (prepared positions west of the Dnieper).
    3. Form a Central Armored Reserve — twelve full-strength panzer divisions.
  • July–December 1943 — elastic defense, trading space for time:
Abandon the Kursk salient — pull back voluntarily to preserve the armored spearhead.
Battle of Kharkov — give up the city, draw the enemy in.
Dnieper defense — fight on the prepared line.
  • The war grinds on, and the front settles along the middle Dnieper, around Chernigov.
  • January–June 1944 — attrition stalemate.
  • July 1944–March 1945 — the Eastern Front deadlocks.
  • Operation Bagration stalls:
In this timeline, Army Group Centre is annihilated in June 1944.
German troop density on the Belorussian axis is 2× higher!!! (reserves). When the Soviets break through at Vitebsk, they run into an armored counterattack — the 5th Panzer Division ambushing the 5th Guards Tank Corps.
Result the Soviet advance stalls 120 km east of Minsk (historically, they reached Warsaw).

And Political fallout:

  • Warsaw Uprising — historically the Soviets sat across the river and watched in August 1944. Here, with the Red Army still 200+ km away, the uprising gets pushed back to March 1945.
  • September 1944, Quebec Conference — the Allies assess “The USSR may not be able to end the war”
  • Do the Allies abandon the French landings? Or pivot toward Romania?

…And that’s where I run out of steam. But you get the idea — the fun of alt-history isn’t “Nazis win lol,” it’s watching the world reroute itself one consequence at a time.

Anyway. The above is… the facts, as I have stated them.
