Last time, I made a suggestion regarding the flamethrower squad, and opinions were very divided.
My idea is very simple: you see the bikers?
We can leave them unarmed or equip them however we want! We could do the same thing: players who don’t want to worry about the details could play normally with a rifle and flamethrower, while those who prefer detail to utility could play only with the flamethrower.
After all, if they have difficulties, that’s their problem—they chose to remove the primary weapon! What do you think?
At least this idea isn’t arbitrary; everyone will find something to their liking!
I would rather carry the flame thrower and have a shotgun as a main weapon. I personally would not be in favor of carrying a flame thrower only, however, I wouldn’t be opposed to the player having the option to choose to discard his other weapon.
Besides a flame thrower soldier, I would think that a radioman carrying two weapons along with his radio would also be more cumbersome then a radioman carrying one weapon, his radio and an ammo pouch, so why not also have an option for radiomen to discard their secondary weapons for ammo pouches.
Radio men can choose between a second gun or backpack like any other class that has that choice,
I am fine with shotgun I just don’t want flamers with sniper, smgs, mg, rockets, gl rifle?, ect
You can suggest this idea! I have a feeling that, for some unknown reason, we won’t be getting many major new features. Instead, I propose improving the current gameplay, for example by optimizing squad composition, refining existing specializations like medics, and so on.
I want to ensure consistency, comrade. Offering assault rifles to a soldier equipped with a flamethrower would completely contradict what I’m trying to explain. The idea is to give you the choice of equipping any rifle from the rifleman tech tree, or only a flamethrower.
Because, in reality, the weight of a flamethrower combined with the impractical length of a rifle makes it virtually impossible. Take weapon switching, for example: how do you carry a flamethrower and a rifle at the same time?
You see what I mean?
This is just to add a bit of logic for players who want it.
Because, frankly, soldiers are either giants or capable of lifting cars.
If logic isn’t important to you, you can always equip yourself with a rifle in addition to the flamethrower.
As I said, it’s not arbitrary; everyone does what they want! And that’s precisely what soldiers, squads, etc., lack.
I was actually going to suggest dropping the gun yourself as well. I understand it’s not ideal for you, but i don’t see them making this a thing any time soon, if at all. I’m on console myself, but still have a key bind for dropping the gun. I set mine to the D-pad (down 3 times). I understand it can be a challenge to set up all the controls on controller. It took me a very long time to figure out what works and doesn’t and how to utilize the same button for multiple things without interfering with other functions. It was difficult for sure, but also has vastly improved my games. I’m quite happy with their key binding options for controller. It’s pretty in-depth with what you can do once you start to figure things out. I can share my set up if you’re interested (I’m using an xbox controller)
(Setting up my custom binds has immensely helped with my piloting skills. By far the most game changing there)
Listen, I already have my setup that uses almost all my keys, and I don’t want to change everything for something that should be included in the base game.
However, share your setup anyway; even if I don’t need it, it might be useful to someone on the forum!
I get it, like i said it’s not ideal for you. Thought maybe you didn’t have many key binds from you’re response. I’ll post em anyways though. I really think my plane controls is about as good as they can get, and didn’t see anything like it out there when i was first trying to learn what worked better. It essentially uses both pointer aim for easier targeting, and joystick mode for pure maneuvering giving you best of both worlds for CAS and dog fighting. Although i still believe it csn be tweaked a bit more
(I’ll post much later in the day. Need to get some sleep. Realized it’ll take a lot of pictures showing how each command is set up)
This is just speculation, but I think the reason the devs don’t allow you to do this is that your flamer weapon becomes your main weapon. This means other players can pick it up. Same logic with AT soldiers. It would mean when a flamer dies his weapon can easily be turned back against the team which could be a bit annoying.
I’m not telling anyone anything new: when you take an enemy’s weapon, you have to resupply it to be able to use it fully, and generally, only snipers or mortar gunners place crates, so these crates are located outside the conflict zone.
Furthermore, as I tried to show in my image, the flamethrower does not move from its place; a weapon remains available in the main slot, as for IFV pilots.
You can curently drop your flame thrower on the ground as it is on your own accord, and I’m pretty sure the game is set up to not drop it upon death even with no other weapon.
