Allow drivers to poke their heads out of the hull for improved visibility

When we walk, we need to watch the road ahead and glance down every now and then to avoid obstacles that could trip us up. The same logic applies to driving tanks.

The commander sits at the highest point of the tank with a wide field of view, but they have to duck back inside the hatch when danger arises, leaving them unable to see the terrain under the hull. Enlisted’s terrain mechanics are totally different from War Thunder’s. In WT, you can drive over any rocks, but in Enlisted, even small stones can stall or trap your tank. Any rock over a quarter of a meter tall will get the tank stuck and cut its traction, making normal movement impossible. This makes checking low ground obstacles extremely important.

Relying solely on the commander’s view makes it hard to keep an eye on the ground below, and you’ll crash into obstructions before you notice them.

Allow drivers to stick their heads out of the hull hatch to get a better view ahead and avoid obstacles that the commander cannot see.

. This would be especially useful on rock-heavy maps like Pacific and Ardennes, where most environmental objects are indestructible.

If DF fixes this issue, vehicles like the M3A1 and Sd.Kfz series APCs could also have their front hatches opened freely for better vision, which would be a huge quality-of-life improvement for players.

but in the picture, it’s the hull gunner/radioman that’s peaking out. the panzer driver could not peak out and drive at the same time. Also the guy would be in the way of the turret if it traverses. I know only of the sherman where that would be possible (there are probably others). Well, t-34 driver could open the frontal port.

But I think peaking out is cool. What I would rather see is better stances for the commander, and adding the ability to use personal equipment for some tanks lacking it (idk why american Shermans don’t have it, only the british Sherman II).

There are photos and footage of tank commanders poking their heads out to drive, but I couldn’t find them when I tried to pull them up for the forum post, so I only have this single picture as evidence. My suggestion is simply to give drivers better visibility. I don’t want them to stick half their torso out like tank commanders, which would make them way more vulnerable to being taken out.
I have no idea why DF restricted Allied tanks from using binoculars.
I really wish I knew, this mechanic just feels so wrong to me.
