AI squad members are too slow to follow!

The AI soldiers follow much too late after I start moving. I often encounter situations where I engage in combat and die, only to switch to another squad member who is still dawdling or stuck 20-30 meters behind where I died. (To be clear, this happens even when I haven’t given a “Hold Position” order.)

While I don’t expect them to be glued to my side at all times, this excessive delay needs to be mitigated. It is especially frustrating to die during a fight inside an indoor objective, only to be forced into a squad member who is lagging far behind 20-30 meters away.

Furthermore, if the distance exceeds a certain limit, even active orders are canceled, which increases the time it takes for the AI to catch up to the player (this happens even when ordering them to rush a capture point).
The AI needs to follow the player faster and should be able to execute orders from a greater distance.

I completely agree. The 20-30 meter ‘lag’ isn’t just a minor annoyance; it breaks the core squad-swapping mechanic of the game. If I die on the objective, I shouldn’t be ‘rewarded’ by spawning into a bot that is still 50 meters away and playing with a butterfly.

Some suggestions:

  • Contextual Pathfinding Refresh: When a player is sprinting or inside a ‘Capture Zone,’ the AI’s pathfinding update rate should double to reduce the following distance.
  • Interior Snapping: When a leader enters a building, the AI should prioritize moving to the nearest indoor navigation node within 5-10m instead of circling the exterior.

The goal is to make the squad feel like a cohesive unit in a fight, not a collection of lost tourists following a leader they can’t keep up with.

The game always seems to choose the bot that is furthest awya from the fight. Multiple times when i get killed i respawn as a lone squad member 50 meters from the battle while the rest of my squad closer to the battle get killed as a result

For this exact reason I usually leave the bots outside.
No matter where they are they play with butterflys, but instead of dealing with that shit in middle of combat at cap point, leaving bots behind grants me more than enough time to reload because bot thinks 2 rounds in mag is more than enough.
Switch to actual gun because bot decided to look the view with binocs.

This is also one of the reasons why I leave the bots behind.
Say, you go over a fence to get in cap point theres fairly big chance the bots decideds the best way to get otherside of fence is to go around it thru artillery, enemy spawn and infront of 2 enemy tanks.

Any upgrade to AI is welcome.
But the overall effectivenes of this squad of “special” forces that you need to babysit, is just so far behind that I rather leave them behind and use them as mobilespawn points.

I would be celebrating if I could keep my AI bots anywhere close to 20-30 meters from me . Usually the dumbasses are at least 50-100 meters behind me when I am trying to go from point A to point B, and I have no idea how most of them are dying since they are no where close to me when they die, and for some reason, I can traverse a complete battlefield without ever being shot at, but my bots can’t cross a street 500 meters from the cap point without 70% of them dying. Not to mention that if I do get them into a safe place, the dumbasses will just stand in front of a window/door, go up or down a floor or just run outside all together totally disregarding the order to stay SUPPOSEDLY they were programmed with. If the Dev’s can’t make an AI bot stay when ordered, then it’s obvious they are in way over their head with bot tech.

No, the bots in this game are #1 enemy cannon fodder, and #2 are usable squad members “IF” they don’t all commit suicide before we can use them. I rarely play with more then two or three squad members because 60-80% of them will die before I lose my first member, and trust me, they ain’t dying heroically, in fact, the stupid shit they do would just get them court marshalled in real life IF THEY SURVIVED the mission.
