AI Should Take Cover Better

AI currently are cannon fodder, I understand they are supposed to not be as good as a player, but currently you can count on your squad being gone within a minute or two, simply feeding the enemy unless you send them far to the rear. They just stand out in the open ready to be picked off. They do attempt to take cover sometimes, but when they do they often push you around.

I see just a few things that could be easily improved. First is that even if they do take cover, they tend to reposition with every little move you make, taking them out of cover just because you were peeking a corner yourself. Or jumping out of a window or out of a trench into death just because you peeked or checked another direction. All this time they are not even shooting and just dying because they are just running to reposition.

Setting move commands for everything is almost mandatory simply to cancel this hyper-reactive behaviour and get them actually shooting and taking cover. So the AI needs to be less reactive to small movements of the player and more able to decide where to stand themselves.

Second is they stand up a lot, which is suicide. They should crouch more in urban environments, and go prone more in open environments. Having a high stance when they don’t need to just makes them a big useless target.

Just those two changes would make them much more survivable, without changing anything else.

AI was pretty bad in the past and is much better now, but they sure need more tuning and I bet devs are still working on this one (and will be for some time).

So after a quick test in the firing range, I can see that your squad even repositions when you look around even if you aren’t moving. This is very bad and exposes them a lot just because you are looking around for enemies.
