Currently, AI only lay down on the floor once they’re done with everything else.
However, the main use case for prone position is to take less damage from explosions (and the game even writes this on your screen when you’re damaged by HE impacts!).
Following this, I propose a new logic by which prone position takes the FIRST priority (instead of the last priority) as soon as the player lays down.
AI will thus not e.g. finish running towards the player and then prone, but prone and then crawl towards the player.
This is an important change that allows players to keep their squad when they react to explosives in a timely manner, rather than only being able to preserve the soldier they are controlling at the moment.

I’d like it if they were a little better at using cover too

Cover is the main thing for me - there is absolutely no way anyone should just be stood out in the open.
Amount of times I’ve been squad wiped because I get shot and every time I switch it’s someone in the open with their back to the action! Or I’ll find cover and everyone else will just wander around aimlessly.
Default action should be find cover and look where I’m looking/marking.
And if I’m not moving, they’re not moving.

THE AMOUNT OF TIMES MY SQUAD HAS BEEN LOOKING THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION AFTER I’VE BEEN SHOT
Words that are not in all caps so I can send the message because “is this a complete sentence?”
