i mean this depends if you think about it as they could balance it with 2 main lines on a map the offence and defence base lines and a front line you could only build with these units behind the base or main lines of each side
ya i think this could replace the equipment slots with a buildings research slot instead giving more full range over your buildable would probably work much better then my idea

That game is called Verdun and it has a smaller player base than enlisted. (Admittedly I took parts of my suggestion from Verdun.) But I think an attacking and defending line may be a bridge too far for some.
