Adjustments to AI commands for ease of use, usefulness of AI, and to stop AI breaking down friendly structures

  1. Remove the ability and therefore command for AI soldiers to break down friendly structures. It is happening far too frequently where friendly AI go up and break down ammo boxes, sandbag walls, etc without their commanding player giving the order intentionally. If something needs to be destroyed, the player themself can do it.

  2. AI commands need to differentiate between being placed on the floor/ ground, or placed on a wall.
If placed on the floor/ ground, the AI will gather around that location. Pretty simple.
However, if it is placed on a wall, they will press up against that wall from whichever side the mark was placed. This keeps them from stupidly running outside to be near the mark while still making them stand somehere other than the middle of the room.

  • Additionally this could open up the opportunity to command your troops to take up stations along a wall with windows, and focus on targets through the windows, while maintaining cover at their sides to reload and such. Improving their efficiency significantly if the player is smart about where they place their commands. Even more so if they can use this with sandbag walls as well since they will no longer be breaking them down.

  • This keeps it fairly simple without needing to add a whole lot of extra UI to the game like I’ve seen in other posts. (Don’t get me wrong, I still support more in depth commands, but this suggestion is to make them more useful at a basic level so that less players are just leaving their troops in a dark corner and using them 1 at a time).

  • Similar idea would apply to trenches both default to the map as well as player dug trenches. If the mark is placed in the center, they simply group up there. However if the mark is made on the inner wall/ edge of it, the AI troops will attempt to take cover on that side and more actively engage targets on that side.

If there is such bug, the bug should be fix, not removing the function. By your logic, you should delete the game now since it is full of bugs.

Lol, you know that deconstructing thing take longer time than constructing things right? Only let player themselves doing it will waste much time.

this is actually pretty interesting! i wonder how much of a trouble it would be to make it work.

(and how much it would confuse players ;p)

It’s not a bug, but rather an oversight by the developers. It may have gotten worse as of recently though, and it may be due to new players, regardless, its still an issue.

I’ve seen players issue a command to their AI at an ammo box, thinking it means the AI will go grab ammo. Instead it breaks down the ammo box.

Same thing with sandbag walls. They issue a command for their troops at a sandbag wall, thinking it will make them take cover behind it. Instead, it breaks it down.

Like I said, its an oversight issue, not a bug. By implementing the change it could be much better for the game and improve AI intelligence and usefulness a fair bit.

No reason to be hostile or toxic. Either participate in a civil manner, or don’t participate at all.

Since you don’t appear to be aware, breaking down FRIENDLY fortifications doesn’t take an extended amount of time, only ENEMY structures do. If you need to speed it up further in either situation, use an engineer. You should be putting an engineer on every squad anyways.

This thing rarely happen in battle, I don’t think it is a major issue. I still don’t see the point of removing the function, dev can just create other order and assign it to different button to take ammo and take cover at sandbag.

Lol, you think that is hostile or toxic? Looks like someone is so easy to get offended. I am just showing how ridiculous your logic is.

Wrong. They take same amount of time(just tested it in practise), I think you use engineer to build it and using the same engineer to deconstruct so the faster deconstruction ability of engineer giving the illusion of same deconstruction speed.

Not everyone bring engineer on every squad, even they did, the engineer may be already dead. I don’t see the point of deconstruct thing yourself as engineer because you can just call the engineer ai soldier to this. If there is multiple stuff to deconstruct, it is more efficient to issue personal order to each ai soldier to let them deconstruct those stuff rather than deconstruct it yourself one by one.
