Upon seeing the new perk system, I have to honestly say I feel pretty letdown. On one hand it will be nice to be able to use all the perk points, but when it was originally talked about, the devs made it sound like some of the perks you would actually be able to stack and make more effective than what we have now.
Instead, you have to stack in to it to reach the maximum effect (which is the same as it is now).
A big example of this that was a letdown for my buddies and I is the melee swing speed/ damage. We were hoping we would finally be able to swing faster to dig, so trenching would become a lot more viable overall.
This leads me into the suggestion:
Add some other perk options that let you further specialize, rather than just generalized perks.
Like split the current melee perk into 2 different parts; melee combat swing speed/ damage, and trenching speed.
This way those that wish to equip engineers for example with the better trenching capabilities can, without making the direct combat skill unbalanced.
Other perks that could be adjusted:
- climb speed, separate into mantling speed vs ladder climb speed.
- recoil perks for shooting while standing also offer options for shooting from crouch or even when using MG nests.
- moving while crouched/ prone should be separated, and the numbers increased.
- etc.
By doing something like this, you would offer a lot more diversity of options and have less “mandatory meta” perks. Allowing players to build out more unique squads and therefore more varied gameplay.
@EdVanSchleck I’m sure that if this seems reasonable, you’ll get it passed along.
