On Normandy D-Day (as the attackers), speed, aggression and/or flanking are, at least for me, the key to capping the 1st point.
Flanking is already a thing, so the only place to build a trench is straight up the middle of the beach.
My engineers have better things to do. Just my opinion.
I’m sure there are “plans”. It’s not like it would require a lot of work to copy and paste the mechanic. They were probably just testing it in Tunisia. Except that in practice these mechanics don’t do anything. Digging a small trench takes longer than capping a point. You have to dig manually yourself while your bots uselessly die around you. Why do it?
Smoke artillery could potentially be useful, but it’s some higher level tactical play with zero immediate reward. In a game where most remaining players just farm points on bots and occasionally go out of their way to humiliate other players. I’ve been playing somewhat regularly since the addition of Tunisia and have seen smoke artillery no more than 5 times in total.
