We already have too many br 3 tank destroyers as is if we’re gonna add more can they at least be armored like the heater or have machine guns like the nashorn?
Also the only thing Germany is lacking right now is a quasi heavy tank for br 3. They’re fine in all other departments for tanks
There is certainly no shortage of German BR3 tank destroyers, but even if you have too few, you can never have too many.
That theory already feels overly tested. Stug 3 f. Stug 3 g. Flak bus. Dicker max. Sturmpanzer. Marder 2 H (i think) and pz4/70 A is also likely to be moved down.
I’d be happy if there were lots
sorry, but out of all vehicles from WT that could be implemented, i have a feeling this one should be the last one.
for germany anyway.
unironically the Sturer Emil is straight up better
more snappy, the engine doesn’t die when trying to turn, and while being generally taller, wouldn’t have issues shooting OVER things instead of being tall just as a sandbag or tank wreck.
To be honest, this tank should have been made into a premium vehicle alongside the KV-2. It’s truly puzzling why they made the historically mass-produced 88mm gun carrier at BR 4.7 into a premium version.
The number of German tanks positioned at BR 3.0 is dwindling. The VFW is either a premium or an event vehicle.
What will Germany have left to counter the KV series?
Everything seems to be locked behind paywalls now. Aside from the Panzer IV, the tech tree hardly offers anything else. It feels like Gaijin is depleting Germany’s potential at BR 3.0. Unless they follow the approach used with the premium and tech tree versions of the Jagdpanther—retiring the current 88mm gun carrier and replacing it with a tech tree version.
If that were possible, I’d be thrilled too. When playing Germany at BR 3.0, I have to rely on the Panzer IV constantly, and it gets boring. But to counter KVs, I’m forced to buy the StuG III. Otherwise, my armor can barely hold up. I think they should at least add an 88mm flak gun carrier to the tech tree, along with something like the stubborn “Emil.” Then, the advanced squad could get a “Max” and this vehicle as well.
The VFW could be moved to events or special missions instead.
But Gaijin never plays by the rules. I feel like this issue will just be shelved indefinitely, like the whole armor balance dilemma.
I do support moving this tank down in BR, but the Soviet side would also need to receive the SU-85 and its best shells. Although its frontal armor is only 45mm, its gun should be able to penetrate this tank. Honestly, this vehicle feels tricky to balance—even if Soviet tanks are updated with guns that have 96mm vertical penetration, it would still be a tough opponent. But in that case, the ZIS-5 could also be moved down to BR 3.0, since the Germans would have something equally formidable.
In War Thunder, even the KV-2 struggles to overpressure it from the front (I don’t believe that overpressure test with 64mm armor—how was that measured? In reality, a 152mm shell would overpressure it instantly). Other than that, I fully support the idea. Heck, maybe the StuG III G could even be moved down to BR 2
Make sure you’re thinking of the A variant not the V
Oh, um, I forgot. According to War Thunder’s armor analysis, there’s a StuG IV A with a short 75mm gun at BR 4.3. I seem to remember it also has a machine gun port on the hull. Hmm. For 76mm and 75mm shells to penetrate it, you’d have to aim for that machine gun port. It’s a bit tricky but still manageable. Anyway, I still really want it moved down. Oh, and that tank with vertical armor—the “V”!
That vehicle would work too. In War Thunder, it’s a hidden premium tank. On one hand, its gun is strong, but on the other hand, its vertical armor creates big weak spots that other tanks can easily exploit. I don’t understand why this thing is in the tech tree—it could be moved down to BR 3.0 as a squadron vehicle instead.
tbf, all those derp guns still one shot just by aiming for room or even lower mantle normally.
But yea s you say, the damage model has gotten worse over time, not to mention the cancelled APHE rework to make them work as they are meant to because of the 300,000 voters at 3am on the last day of the vote.
