Add The M1 Garand Gas Trap

I recently made a suggestion about rebalancing the M1 Garand to go to BR 4, and renaming it to M1 Garand Gas Port, or any designation to specify that version of the rifle. This change allows the Allies’ BR 4 Tech Tree Rifle gap to be filled with a high combat use, iconic weapon. To fill it’s place at BR 3, I would like to add the earlier Gas Trap variant of the Garand, which was also used in large quantities.

M1 Garand Gas Trap vs Port

This weapon would have similar stats to the existing Gas Port variant that we have at BR 3. Implementing this variant in this fashion allows the Allies tree to have a BR 4 rifle that is historically relevant. In a sense, this can be seen as an analogous progression to the Gewehr 41 and Gewehr 43 in the Axis Tree: the weapons are very similar, aside from the detachable magazine on the latter, and the gas system being changed from an annular gas trap to a copy of Tokarev’s gas port.

Is it enough to have the same weapon in the TT twice? What would the stat differences be? Is more of the same weapon really something the Allied TT needs?

Nothing is stopping people from using a br3 gun in br4 currently. Unless the stats are significantly better there’s no reason to add the same thing just to “fill a gap”.

I think maybe a Full auto Garand Field mod could maybe work for Br4 as well Full Auto M1 Garand (Guth field mod) - Suggestions / Weapons - Enlisted — official forum

But maybe more for event.

Would it be better if this version gets implemented at BR IV with better stats and the gas port version stays at BR III? Because the gas port version already has the GL variant at BR IV, if the gas port version is placed at BR IV it would get obsolete because the GL version would get the same buffs and it would be prefered over the regular one (the gas port version)

I’m not really a fan of that, since it would be like the SVT-40 being BR 3 and the SVT-38 being BR 4. The Gas Port is the later variant.

The Gas Port with GL could possibly be a BR 5 weapon? If that happened, there would obviously be more need for a AT GL bolt action for the Allies at BR 3 (probably the M1903A4).

Even with buffs a Garand at BR5 would be dead on arrival. There‘s no reason to use a weapon with less than half the rounds, similar damage and no full auto even if it has a GL.

But there really isn’t any problem at placing those weapons in that order, even if one is an earlier variant, it would be for the sakes of not making the GL variant obsolete ( I agree with what GROOT0404 said). Just to make a constrast, the M1A1 Thompson is the latest variant of all thompsons available in the TT, and it is placed at BR II because of its ROF.

As for a bolt action ATGL rifle, a scopeless M1903A3 for BR II and ATGL variant for BR III would give us finally a BR II American boltie and BR III allied ATGL rifle.
