Add periscope damage

rework the tanks so they have their true to life visions and add periscope damage
the more damage the less useable, with a destroyed periscope = cant use that one
many tanks if all of them carried spare periscopes that they could change out with little to no effort in the middle of battle but it would still be a finite repair that would greatly enhance AT rifles and would let infantry damages tanks when they are crawling over them as naturally the glass can still break and would destroy a periscope after a whole clip/mag is unloaded into them

Basically suggestion on the same level as “if you shoot soldier’s limbs, he shouldn’t be able walk or using weapon”.

Meh.

Theoretically it sounds like a nice implementation, but realistically all you’re gonna get are the experienced players who will use their machine guns to disable the tanks ability utilize it’s cannon. With how fast paced the battles are, and how close-range vehicle-to-vehicle encounters are… it would take minimal effort to spray the machine gun and disable the other player’s periscope while your cannon is reloading for the killshot.

Cosmetically the idea of realistic periscopes is nice, but taking damage and rending visibility useless would probably be a bad idea.

mg bullet = light damage, so engaging a tank in close quarters would come down to who shoots 1st and at a distance it would not matter much as the chance of gettting enough hits in to disable it would be like a leprechaun wearing a suit made out of four leaf clover lucky and gunners would still have wide view sights and would carry replacements from time to time

I guess we would find out if the mechanic was ever implemented :man_shrugging: :upside_down_face:

Optics damage sounds like a nice idea on paper, but I share the same worries as others.

In practice, it is EXTREMELY hard to balance such mechanic.

Very minor tweaks to optics’ damage model can easily make shooting optics a broken mechanic. Either useless, ot the ultimate AT troll meta.

Consider that even War Thunder, after years of experience and dozens of new features added to tank combat, hasn’t added actual optics damage yet.

Some vehicles (like Shermans) can change their optics from inside, so it wouldn’t really balance some vehicles.

Tbh it would be enough if this was visual only thing imo. Not evertything has to have a gameplay effect.

This visual thing WOULD definitely have gameplay effect. If the tank becomes blind, it can’t fight anymore.

And here we go back to the previous point: if the visual effect actually prevents the tank from seeing, the tank is KO (at least temporarily); if it doesn’t, the whole mechanic is useless.

I think it’s not needed. You can already blind tank, just throw molotov in it. It works quite well. I really do hate it when someone does that.

There’s already 100 ways how to annoy tank, and this one is just unnecessary.

I meant to do it “useless” way.

For example arty strike would damage my viev port (some cracks on glass) and my soldier would automaticaly change it for a good one. Not a big deal in terms of gameplay but a nice visual detail that increases “immersion”.
