Like functional MG-nest we see on most maps, I’d like to see functional AA or AT-guns ready to be operated on the battlefield.
It would:
make the battlefield feel more alive
give the new players the ability to not only be more competitive but also get access to all the lovely features this comb arm offers.
I have had this idea for some time since they released the feature of lunge-mines placed, scattered around in the Pacific. They said at the time of the release they wanted to examine how this feature worked out, and in my opinion, it was a lovely addition to the game. Now I think it’s time to enhance it.
I’ve been wanting for this to be added for a long time. Imagine if we could actually use those 88mm found in so many maps like Hurtgen, Omer, Berlin, etc. Also the 85mm guns found in Stalingrad. This would be very helpful, specially for defenders in certain maps so they can hold their ground. It would be very important so that these weapons are not limited to just one faction, but so anyone could use them. Adding this sandbox element to the game would be a huge improvement for new gameplay strategies, and making the environment more interactive for the player instead of just being breakable props.
Good question, I was thinking the same thing. A fair point of comparison would be the way stationary MGs (commonly MG-42s found in bunkers, etc) work for all battle rates, including low br. Even though wielded by itself they’d be classified as high BR. This is also balanced by the fact that once they’re destroyed they’re no longer usable.
However, usable stationary AA or flak 88s in game would be a whole new concept, which I haven’t seen implemented not even in custom mods. One option is that they could have a fixed set amount of ammo and once it’s depleted it becomes unusable. Second option, would be allowing ammo to he replenished by using engineers the same way we do with AT cannons in game. I’d rather choose the second option, but either one would still add a cool new element in game regardless.
Another thing, in my personal opinion, is that Flak 88/ Soviet 85mm should remain very exposed if they were to be manned by a player, as they already don’t have a frontal protector shield unlike AT cannons (If we were to use the current models we have in game) This would be the perfect balance as the gunners could be taken out by small arms fire assault, plane strafing or a HE shell.
I hadn’t considered how exposed the gunners would be. Finite ammo that can be replenished by engineers is a good idea.
I’d also like the generated ammunition crates to actually ‘work’. These would be finite and could be randomly assigned to either side (i.e you find a crate maybe it’s Allied maybe it’s Axis. It is only useable if it’s your side.)
