[/poll]The state of Soviet BR V tanks is severe. Compared to the top-tier tanks of Germany or Japan, they severely lack in both firepower and protection. In particular, the IS-2 often ends up destroyed because its protection falls short relative to its 122mm gun’s awkward HE firepower, penetration, and slow reload speed.
Therefore, I believe the Soviet tank tree needs the IS-3 and IS-4. Both of these tanks were developed during World War II. Although there is no definitive proof of them seeing combat, there are rumors that a small number were deployed near the end of the war. Considering that various gameplay allowances are already applied—such as Japan’s Ho-Ri tank—this should not be a major issue. Given the extremely low win rate of Soviet BR V, there is more than enough reason to add the IS-3 and IS-4 tanks. **This addition would help balance Soviet tanks against those of Germany and Japan.
I think it would be a bit of an overreach to go that far in a game that doesn’t focus on vehicles; for instance, if they add the IS-3, people will start asking for the Jagdtiger, Tortoise, and American T34. The IS-2 can penetrate the Tiger II; I’m not sure about the Ho-Ri, but it has very poor visibility and lacks a turret. Regarding slow gun traverse, I’ve already seen suggestions for the IS-2 with a 100mm gun and the T-44, which would be more viable options. Just imagine how hard it would be for infantry to destroy tanks like that I don’t think dynamite packs would suffice, and anti-tank weapons already struggle against some of the current tanks.
The ST-2 (or ST-II) was a real Soviet double-barreled heavy tank paper project designed in June 1945 its IS-2 with 2 guns. So its a world war 2 prototype.
The devs gave Japan the Ho-Ri because Japan lacks a competent BR V tank. I don’t think an IS-3 should be included in the tree, maybe as an event vehicle. Plus, the IS-3 uses the exact same main gun as the IS-2, and no, we can’t give it postwar shells with better penetration, it shall use the same proyectiles as the IS-2, the only difference would be the IS-3 is incredibly hard to penetrate.
