It’s no secret that the community has been asking for a Tech Tree Sd.Kfz. 251 (Axis) for a long time. However, there’s always been a dilemma: How do you introduce a TT version without devaluing the purchase of players who paid for the Premium 251/1? (Also, no, just copy pasting it but with an MG 34 is a lame idea)
I think there is a simple, fair win-win solution for everyone(almost)
Add a new Sd.Kfz. 251 variant directly behind the Sd.Kfz. 7 in the tech tree.It provides a logical progression step, and no one loses or feels downgraded regarding the Sd.Kfz. 7. F2P players finally get access to the iconic Hanomag shape in their main tree.
Now, it will have 2 MAIN changes from the Premium SdkFz 251/1
Give it an MG 34 instead of an MG 42. Both variants were used, and thus, the Premium version still keeps its firepower while the TT one has a weaker one.
Have it camouflaged. Historically there did exist camouflaged versions of the SdkFz
(Image providednote that some tree branches could be added)
It should be still BR II, like its premium brother, tough on BR I am not sure.
4)Besides its firepower, gun and aesthetics, it would be bassicly the same as the premium version
"Thanks for reading! Sorry for any mispronounciations, english is my second language. (Pls vote, if you want)
Should the SdKfz 251 D (Camouflaged) Come to the Tech Tree
I’m only voting no as it makes more sense to add a camouflage to the premium version and just give us a plain paint scheme instead. That way the premium squad feels more like a premium squad and less like a TT squad.
I don’t agree with adding a 251 to the TT since that would kill the premium 251/1. However, I think on a different approach: The Sd.Kfz 250/1, a smaller/shorter version, more of a command vehicle but still could be used as an APC
I dont know what to feel about this, i mean the MG-34 and MG-42’s firerate arent really that diffrent, the german tech tree apc should be replaced my the Opel-Blitz imo but back to the Sd. kfz. the premium version should get a 200 round belt or sum to compensate.
I also agree with @Lingguinea that it makes more sense for a camo version as premium and standard as TT.
I dont understand why the M3 Halftrack and Hanomag must be locked behind paywalls. They are some of the most famous and common WWII vehicles but DF is like NOPE.
At least the Hanomag is in the German tree, why in gods name the Soviets got the M3 Halftrack idk (theres various Soviet options they couldve got.)
Armed or unarmed is a debate. I think it would be good for BR III APCs (halftracks instead of trucks) to have some form of armament.
That said unarmed versions of both M3 and Hanomag did exist and were used.
Indeed maybe thats a way around this if an M3 or M2 halftrack (unarmed) was added to Allied tree and unarmed Hanomag to the Axis tree.
But there should be no debate about adding a Hanomag itself, it belongs in tech tree!!
Tech tree common WWII tech MUST come first before crap premium or event nonsense.
@MakeWarNotLov3 Fair compromise however Im strongly against the 250/1 because well look at it, its more like a Tiny Turbos toy than a halftrack APC. As you acknowledged its more of a command car than APC.
It could be added as a German version of M3 Scout Car maybe but not as APC slot.
The soviets recieved 421 M5 Half-tracks during the war via lend-lease, while they only recieved 2 units of the M3 Half-track, so they should have the M5 instead of the M3.
As for the Sd.Kfz 250/1, it would work under the same logic as the Bren Carrier, which is also small and irl it could transport 3 - 4 troopers, the Sd.Kfz 250 could transport 6 irl. I propose it since it was usually armed with a MG34, unlike the 251 wich more commonly was either eqquiped with either an MG42 or MG34. Just as the Universal Carrier, its role was usually to transport troops and scout enemy positions, but it could be used to trasport artillery/MG servants and provide fire support too (Like during the Battle of Arnhem).
The Sd.Kfz 250/3 and 250/5 were the command/linking vehicle versions, eqquiped with radios and antennas (those bars some vehicles like the Sd.Kfz 223 and Sd.Kfz 231 had above them)
