if i send troops to the academy do i lose those weapons too or do i get those automatically scrapped or do i get them back in my weapons equiptment? what happens to them since i want to use the academy but im afraid of losing all the weapons they the troops are using.

You get your weapons back, but I strip them all beforehand just to be extra sure.

You get all things back but I suggest you to dismember all the items from your soldiers before sending

Take everything useful off them - all thrown weapons, give them a basic rifle not an upgraded one, no side arms, just a knife not an axe, etc - you can then give these to troops in squads you are using.

I like to roleplay that they might lose it while they are at academy and the commandant of the academy has a rivaly with me and always gives my troops a hard time when they are there.
So I strip all their gear off regardless. 
If you like roleplay, have you ever wonder why just 1 of 3 returns? Did he eat away others? Did he win them in a battle royale? Did he consume them and become more powerfull? What the hell he did with two other guys???

lol - well I know in the USSR they withdrew troops for NCO training - they had schools at corps and army level giving hundreds of thousands of men some instruction on how to be a corporal or sergeant… every year!
after that they would be assigned wherever they were needed - which would almost certainly not be with their original unit.
but they all (well, at least almost all of them) return from there
