For regular soldiers if you don’t like their name you can just buy a new one. But sometimes especially for Premium and Event squads if the soldiers happen to have silly names or names you don’t like you are stuck with them.
We should be able to change our soldiers’ names for the price of an Appearance Order. It would be a Re-Roll of the name. This ability can be in the Customization system and for all soldiers, Regulars and Premium/Event.
You can give them callsigns, if that’s what you’re looking for
Callsigns are differet from names. They’re more like nicknames or codenames. I know some would say who cares they’re basically the same thing but I’d prefer we have actual names

But since names are chosen from a list, would this be like a re-roll or re-name to whatever you want? Because the names show up to other people in vehicles, don’t want anyone writing some degenerate stuff

Definitely not for normal soldiers. It would devalue the rarity of pulling soldiers with perfect perk points and rare/interesting/funny name.
But for premium/event. I think it can work.
