AA f"me

I have been really enjoying this match or this event this past week with the Italians and the British.

But the AA has been just insane I keep getting tagged with one or two rounds and it kills my plane completely.

Those 20mm AA guns are 10 times as effective as any 20mm aircraft cannon.

It could just be that other matches you don’t see the guns that much because you don’t see aircraft that much I don’t know but for some reason this week it just really strikes me as the guns are OP

AA has always been nuts. Lead indicator is stupid OP

For some reason I just felt it a lot more during this event.

Lead indicator is propaganda - put your aim on it and you will miss 100%

Haven’ seen a thread complaining AA is too strong before - mostly they are complaints it is too weak!

never been my experience. And I have the Same shitty oceanic Ping you do

I was a bit tongue in cheek - aim about 1 diameter in front of the indicator to get hits - not directly at it

I often wonder if thats just us and our ping (I bet elsewhere they can just aim dead center). we certainly have to pull the trigger faster. Shooting at the same time our shot doesnt register

For me, I just fire in bursts in and around the marker, if I do it right, I can take 3 aircraft with one clip.

Im still a fan of @Myrm1don 's suggestion to have the aim lead on AA guns only appear at ultra far range, and have it disappear as aircraft get closer, while aircraft have the inverse only getting the lead indicator up close

Now try to take one down using a joystick

Having a lead indicator or not doesnt change your fine motor skills on an input. Its independent of learning to judge lead required. (not unless youre telling me its like Warthunder where Ground RB Console AA can or used to be able to lock onto planes through terrain and auto track them?..cos that was fucked)

I would suck on a console thumb joystick with and without the lead indicator cos I havent practiced that control method ever (just like I would if I hadnt practiced with a mouse)…wouldnt make a difference to my abilitiy to judge lead. I would still know/learn where to aim regardless of my control ability (just like flying joystick or mouse control…still shoot at the same spot)…

Also planes have no proper way to counter AA. Anti air can see the plane marker from kilometers away while they themselves are nearly impossible to locate from the air and once you start seeing the tracers it is already too late since only a few 20mm shells are needed to either kill or seriously damage the plane. Even if the pilot manages to kill the AA by some miracle they can easily build a new one and take you down

not to mention, gun emplacements can be like infantry and not render in until you are about 250 meters away…I have seen this mulitple times, I have known where the gun is, But it physically doesnt render in untill you are right on top of it. (even the tracers dont render)

Id say another “feature” left over from old Warthunder where if no one has line of sight to something, it de-renders for performance reasons

The AA Pendulum has swung back and forth over the past four or so years that I’ve played and it seems like right now it’s more pro gun than aircraft.

It may have been that why for a while but I just really noticed it this past week or so playing in the event.

There are some key things that I’ve found that are important to avoid being tagged by them.

Try to avoid strafing anything on the ground because that just broadcasts your presence.

Some guys seem to turn the guns on as soon as they spawn in.

And it’s usually best if you porpoise on the way in.

Rockets are usually easier to deal with the guns than strafing them.

Reload times are a lot faster than they used to be for the AA which can make taking them out even harder especially for Strafing.

It’s just that the damage that they’re doing per hit is significant atm.

I just finished a match where I had one tag in my left wing and it fell right off.
