A30 Challenger: The 17 Pdr Cromwell

image

The A30 Challenger was arguably the most advanced British tank to see service in WW2, initially seeing combat in July of 1944 on the Western Front. It was based on the Cromwell, but with an extended hull, extra roadwheel, and enlarged turret inherited from the TOG II* fitted with the 17 Pdr gun.

In Enlisted, The A30 Challenger offers the same 17 Pdr gun of the Sherman Firefly, but on a faster chassis, with a faster reload speed. Carrying a total of 48 rounds, the vehicle would likely carry ~16 rounds of APCBC Shot Mk.8 (190mm pen, 0g HE Filler), ~16 rounds of APDS Shot SV Mk.1 (269mm pen, 0g HE Filler), and ~16 rounds of HE Shell Mk.1 (20mm pen, 580g HE Filler), with a reload of ~5 seconds. For armor, the turret is up to 102mm thick at the front, and the hull is up to 64mm thick. With a 600 HP engine and a mass of 31.5 tons, the vehicle has a top speed of 52 km/h, but only a 3 km/h reverse speed.

I am writing this suggestion because I would like to see a BR 5 British tank option, and while there are some objectively stronger options in the context of Enlisted (Black Prince, TOG II*), they were not service vehicles, so people may oppose their additions to the tech tree. Also, it could arguably be placed at BR 4, but I believe the A34 Comet would be a better fit, considering the Cromwell lineage. Either way, this suggestion leaves the BR open to the choice of the developers, and subsequent test server feedback.

Would you like to see the A30 Challenger added to the game?

I think this would work best at BR4. Also Centurion when so we can have fully modeled BV boilers and historically accurate tea breaks

This one placed on BR 4 with available on TT as well as access to APDS would be a nice addition to F2P players that wishes to use 17 pdr i guess.

Altho ~5 secs is extremely fast reload speed for vehicle like this with 17 pdr gun, maybe it needs a small adjustment to it’s reload speed say, ~6 secs reload speed and to be placed on BR 4. Maybe.

Yea this thing makes more sense at BR4 at most. It’s basically a less armoured Sherman Firefly.

The centurion would probably be the BR 5 tank for the British. This thing could probably be BR 4 as long as the Achilles moves down to BR 3.

Didn’t know so many of those actually saw combat, interesting.

While at it, could add Comet aswell.
