A Possible Fix for the Merger Mess

Having been reading the comments of " teh communitah" on these forums. Here’s my idea at a potential fix to the merger train crash.

  1. trash all the BRs, Tiers etc…

  2. Re-focus your game back on Campaigns and historical map locations for context - you can even do this by map in a campaign, which offers you tons of future adaptations and esoteric scenario options. Each map has a set of uniforms and weapons and vehicles, and maybe even some troop types (I’m looking at you Paras, and some premium units) allocated to it. These are selected historically for a given map. Any non standard weapons you have introduced into the game can also be available in a sensible manner as long as they historically fit - ie no weapons in maps where they haven’t been introduced into service. This includes creating vehicle ratios per map and dividing these amongst players - ie everyone wants to play a KT, so by that virtue every player gets one spawn as an example. The devs can tweak XP on the basis of the rarity of the weapon and how often in can be used in order to keep things balanced.

  3. Split back out the squad unit identities including idiosyncratic uniforms or any new markings patches medals ect that you put into the game and link them to each map as above.

  4. Use the opportunity to create historically realistic squads or half squads /weapon teams where appropriate. Link the defining weapon for that type of squad to them for unlocks and upgrades. This includes the squad size, experience and per trees. So that you create a generic progression tree for every type of squad role you have in game.

  5. Re-format the current squad battle pool so that I can now assign squads into it as presets for Campaigns or even maps. In that way each player can have a dedicated choice of squads for a given map. Create a check box in the Campaign map menus for players to select which vehicle or equipment they can take for a given map - based on what they purchased or unlocked. This will be the most time consuming step of effectively allocating troops to maps by a player and selecting the various weapons/uniforms/vehicles they want to use on that map.
If you don’t have the unlocks you can’t play on a given Campaign/ map set, and you will only go into rotation / game entry for those maps you are able to configure your troops to play on - instantly sorting out new players from older players.
For eg. on entry campaigns - lets say Tunisia Pacific and Moscow, the difference between old and new players will be the squad unlocks and weapon upgrades / weapon vehicle tree tied to that map - shouldn’t be a large range either way given what was historically available and it will be less than the old Campaign spread, as long as things are kept historically accurate with a solid dose of common sense in terms of what should be available from a game perspective.
But this clearly works in a linear fashion form early war load outs to late war load outs playable only on late war maps etc…

  6. Once complete - hit the join battle button - all maps are in play and depending on what which maps you have selected to play on or are able to play on on the basis of your unlock progression will be available to you.

No more uptiers etc…No need for making shit up, each map has historically accurate opposing forces with available equipment at the time.

Simple - “balanced” tm

Overall seems like a bad idea. I’d def stop playing.

  1. We just added BR because the campaign system split the player base 12 ways.

  2. We just got rid of campaigns because they split the player base 12 ways.

2.5 limiting spawn like that would put the entire player base up in arms and kill the game.

  1. So you want players to grind out 30 different infantry squads for each nation? No sir.

  2. We have that to a degree. Go look up WW2 platoon concentrations and they’re not perfect but they’re good enough for game balance.

  3. Not a terrible idea to have squad presets but it would make the queuing system hell.

5.5 so the Allie’s get stuck on the Pacific until BR3. He’ll no. Tunisia may suck but I like variety.

5.75 So now we’re splitting the player base an additional what? Up from 4 to 12 to 36 now?

  1. I’d rather burn my PC than deal with the dumpster fire that is this suggestion.

Yes, reckless mergers have made a mess of the game’s environment and history. The current br level is very unreasonable. They would have had more time to plan a better plan.Perhaps because of KPIs, they chose the simplest and most problematic solution

I probably didn’t explain myself well enough across a couple of these.

The playerbase would not be split 12 ways. The game runs X maps concurrently and fills in players until full and moves on. Then the algorithm mixes it up a bit for your next game. So what I’m proposing still leaves everyone in the same bucket as far as wait time is concerned. If you grasp what I wrote is that your generic role based unlock system is matched to the historical Campaign/Map/Scenario and equipped accordingly to your preferences (and limits of your research) when you enter the game. Everyone on a given Map has a small range of equipment that removes any +/- BR imbalances and just matches you on your unlocked equipment for that Campaign. Similar to what we did have.

You only grind out the core role squads - INF, MG, MOR, ASSLT, ENG, SNIP, FT, Tank, Fighter Pilot, Attacker Pilot etc… plus whatever equipment is historically tied into those roles - smgs, MGs ATRs etc… The specific units that fought on a given map would be retained for that map as a skin along with any other cosmetic changes you already paid for plus anything else they haven’t developed yet as far as customisation goes.

Its not perfect, I get it, but it essentially removes the problem of the wrong unit, or piece of equipment fighting on the wrong map in the wrong historical context. Equally it matches players based on unlock progression rather than any magical BRs/Tiers etc…

People have suggested something similar before but the devs ignored it. The game is just ruined.
