The Do 217 was a heavy night fighter that was a conversion of more conventional bombers, and could be an interesting addition to the BR3 axis lineup. I think this because it is quite different from the BF 110s and Stuka D3 as to where it would be a valuable addition. One such aspect where it differs is it’s guns, which get a huge improvement over current BR3 planes. It has four 7.92mm Mg17s and four 20mm MG 151 cannons with a whopping 800 rounds, whereas the BF 110s have two less 20mm cannons (the slightly weaker MG FF/M version as well), and only 350 rounds. Another such aspect, one of if not the most important for an attack aircraft, the payload, it’s also different from current planes. While those rely on a few bigger bombs, this planes uses a large amount of small bombs, housing eight 50kg bombs in the internal bomb bay, which might be smaller than other options for BR3 attackers, but is still decent and is made up for by the better guns. One slightly smaller way it stands out is that both of it’s defensive gunners use 13mm MG 131s instead of the much weaker 7.92mm machine guns, which is a pretty decent boost to it’s defensive power. While this plane does have a radar installed in the nose and it being the first (and probably few) aircraft that would have an installed radar, it would probably have little benefit as early radars were best used during nighttime when visibility was low (hence, it being a night fighter), and can only search for targets and not track, but I’m not sure on if it would be good or not. Overall, I think it would be a cool and valuable addition to the game as a BR3 attacker, and I could see it being either an event or TT addition.
