A list of improvements/suggestions from playing the beta

Hello guys.

Please note that this is my personal view on things, it is ok to not agree with things. But please be respectful.
I just want this game to do better and become more popular and I believe we all want that.
(in no particular order)

  • The movement feels like you float at times, like your character has no weight to it. Especially when you are jumping. Needs a bit of improving.

  • Grenades remind me of old CS 1.6 where they float when travel/thrown. Very strange mechanic, it feels like you are throwing balloons.

  • Going up or down the stairs feels like your character “enters the ground” or is bugged. First person camera adjustments and it’s animations need to be looked at. At first, when I went up the stairs, I thought I bugged out and enter half way into the ground.

  • Going up or down on ladders is silly, clunky and you end up falling most of the time. The process needs to be sped up and animations adjusted they look so silly and amateurish. Also the top end of a ladder it’s like a boss fight of it’s own LOL. You really have to struggle with it. Just make things easy and fun please. We dont need to fight ladders we already have enough enemies.

  • You can crouch/crawl out of small very small window openings and bunker front balchony (on Dday), pretty questionable. I bet in 3rd person looks even more silly.

  • The Engineer’s Rally Point, should auto-destroy when you place a new one instead of being unable to place a new one. Having to go back, destroy the old so you can place a new is a really irritating experience. I see no point in it just making the game harder for no reason.

  • Ammo crate needs a bit of help, it feels very bugged. Sometimes you dont get ammo and it says you are full when I’m 0/0.

  • Airplane noises are a bit too intrusive and that is all you hear the entire game, it gets annoying fast, it needs it’s range where you can hear it, reduced please.

  • Upgrading weapons to different tiers is a struggle, most weapons have underwhelming upgrades that require too much effort. Maybe per battle if you use that gun you can get a bit of XP. Just anything that can help a bit. A lot of effort, too little reward.

  • The grind could be decreased a bit, remember we have 2 campaigns now, 2 more incoming and for each you have to do multiple factions and squads, even if you buy premium it’s still overwhelming. A bit of help here and there, a bit more forgiving. It is too much at the moment to the point you dont even want to start a different faction or campaign because too much work. I als ofeel XP is capped, you can be the best player in the world and have the most points per game you get capped. Or at least that is how it feels. Pretty unfair if you do good. You should reward good players not punish them.

  • Game is not very attractive o new players. It’s really hard to bring friends into the game when the first thing I have to tell them, yeah you gonna have to pay extra for X or Y or do insane month long grinds. And in some cases they get very little even if they pay. Like the Premium Battle pass, you can level only 3 levels a day. Which makes zero sense considering you PAY for a premium feature that should have no limitation. Like that is the definition of Premium…Never seen a AAA Developer do this to their game. Obviously they want to make things attractive for new or old players.

  • The tutorial needs a bit more work, explaining things mode in depth. Right now I didn’t learn anything from tutorial apart from basic W to move and MB 1 to shoot. Like, yeah we know.

  • You cannot chat or use scoreboard in spawn screen.

  • Reviving teammates consumes your medkit. This just makes me not revive downed teammates and be selfish. It incentivises bad team play. You could give medkits one personal use and two teammates use atleast. Or simply make medkits not be consumed when reviving teammates. Or even add a medic class that has infinite revives on teammates.

  • Increased field of view to at least 110. Some people play bigger monitors like 27’ for example. 90 FoV is not enough in big screens can cause people to get motion sickness and vomiting because FoV is too zoomed in.

  • Planes and Tanks could use some love. I tried them once but the general handling is so difficult and unresponsive that never used them again. Just not fun to play, to difficult to control. They should be a powerhouse. They could also use some camera buffing give them a bit more visibility, like adjusting camera or even give them ‘swap camera to 3rd person’ option via binding, a-la Battlefield game. Easier to use, opens up the opportunity for more players to use them, rather than just completely getting ignored because they are too much of a hassle to even get to learn.

Reminder this is just my own general feel, open to criticism and different perspectives but please be polite as I see there is a trend of aggressiveness around here, for whatever reason.

well, what can we say, you just described enlisted as a whole.

needless to say that as i do, there are many others that thinks the same way.

i have been through the alpha like many others, and unfortunally there are still the same issues present nowdays.

although, cheers for leaving a constructive and detaiiled feedback ^^.

Indeed movement is rather clunky and yes I think you should not be able to go throught really small windows, true that rally point should auto destruct if you change its location.

Ah, yes ammo majority engineers only build sandcastles(bags) very few do tank traps or ammo crates.

Indeed upgrading weapons needs to change it probably drives most of the players away takes too long if you dont pay and same goes for general grind gest boring rather fast if you dont pay!

Whats up with the disapearing weapons in tutorial?

Indeed planes need lot of work draw distance is too short nor you can defend yourself against other planes and engines are too weak and takes entire texas to turn P-38.

Tanks damage model too random driving reminds me more of a Asteroids game than even a remotely arcade(WT). Guns seem bit too random and aiming is atrocious reminds more like a machinegun turret that is man powered and not with hand crank or hydraulics.

The grind is fine. Besides, its the way Gaijin monetizes the game. If you want it changed, propose alternative source of income, otherwise I very much doubt it will be changed. Every time someone talks about changing the grind, how premium time or battle pass works, it’s like saying “I dont like x, change it to y and also you get less money as a company”.

Dont get me wrong, I understand the frustration, but now we are not talking just game mechanics but also game financials and one wont exist without the other.

I rather pay 60$ for a game than to be terrorized with transaction on everything you do. Constantly feeling left out of content and farms you know you will never achieve and lose motivation to keep playing. It can get pretty depressing.

I’m not saying they should remove it. I accept it’s the way they approach things. But they need to approach a middle ground. You want to make things attractive for people to want to buy not make their life miserable.

For example I don’t buy Premium Battle Pass because it has a 3level/day limit. If I don’t have time to log every day, I feel like I lose money and will never finish the Battlepass=money lost. Battlepass limitation tries to force you to log every day.

A friendly reminder that in today’s entertainment industry, this game competes with a lot of other games or movies or other activities. Other games that have battlepas too…that have it easy and fun and more rewarding.

So you want to make things as convenient as possible so your games is the the choice they play and spend money on. You make it too inconvenient and frustrating, people will just move to better things and spend money elsewhere.

If it didn’t had 3/1 limitation I would instantly buy it. But I dont want to feel like losing money. I want to make my money’s worth. I’m sorry I cannot accept a game dictate when I play. So if I never buy it, I never lose anything.

They could come up with a lot of smart stuff to make things attractive. If they focus on making good things people will buy it anyway. If you try to force people into buying, it will only hurt in the end.

I want to spend money in this game. Just has only bad things to offer even if you pay.

Im sorry but if you cant accept this format, this game wont be for you. Lets take a quick look at War Thunder, a game that exists for 10 years and now has more players than ever before. The question the player faces is a simple one: “Do I enjoy playing this game for its mechanics”. Lets assume the answer is yes. Then, one of the following applies

  • You have a lot of time to play the game, in which case you can play for free and progress, because you have a lot of time to play. This usually applies to students

  • You dont have a lot of time to play, in which case you want to make most out of the time you have. Here you can buy a premium account, that doubles the efficiency of your grind. This usually applies to people with work and families.

The second category is how Gaijin makes money. People who can afford to pay for the game, because they have disposable income and who enjoy War Thunder. However, because Gaijin wants to be accessable to new players, the game is free to play, so there is no “investment risk” when getting into the game. The added benefit is that even people, like students, who couldn’t afford a new game or a subscription fee can play the game.

You talk about convinience, but that is also not entierly correct. If the grind was convinient, noone would pay for it. If spading vehicles in War Thunder/upgrading your soldiers in Enlisted was convinient, noone would pay for it. Why pay for somehing thats already convinient, that doesnt make any sense. Unfortunately, if you want to extract money from players, you have to make certain thing inconvinient so that people actually pay. The grind is in the forefront of this and it gives player simple choice:

  • you either have a spare time in which case you can paly for free and still progress at reasonable rate
  • or you dont have that time in which case you pay for removing of the inconviniently slow grind.

When it comes to War Thunder, it has no competition. You could argue about wolrd of tanks, but they lack the combined arms warfare, so its really very much different game. That means monopoly and that means this arguent about entertainment industry is invalid. Do note, that they didn’t get into this position by making the best game for the player, but by sheer scale of the thing. The amount of work that was done is massive and noone was able to catch up.

It is my belive, that Enlisted will go the same route here and if they do, again, no competition. You have your battlefields, Call of Dutys, other games, but these release on yearly basis. Once new game comes out? You progress on the last game is lost forever. This doesn apply to War thunder and neither will to Enlisted, so right from the get go, they have an advantage of live service game. The only competition I can come up with would be Rainbow six Siege, but that game has completley different demographic, so I personally dont belive its a competition.

If you want to spend money, there is only one place to do it. Its the premium time. I have palyed War Thunder for 6 years now and the only place that was worth putting money to was premium time, any thing else was by far a second place.

Finally, I dont think we can reach an agreement here. A lot of the stuff I wrote can be outrageous at the first glance, but I belive it’s the uncomfortable truth of the matter. Given what was Gaijin doing with War thunder… A single tech tree can take a year to grind for a free to play player. And Gaijin is fine with it, they don’t want it changed because its how they make money. And 10 years later, War Thunder is more popular then ever before. They know it works and they will repeat it here.

The only thing in our favor here is that we are early adopters. We can keep up with the game as it expands, so the grind, if you persist, will never get really bad.

Enlisted has competition aka Heroes & Generals which actually has longer grind but atleast was decent including providing anti tank weapons around maps if you dont have one unlocked yourself. Atleast it didint also throw you into against higher level ups as low level player before you reached certain point yourself.

One thing War Thunder has better system considering grinding than Enlisted and less furstrating!

welcome to Gaijin. AKA Grind central

War thunder grind is less frustrating huh? Okay.

You are mixing grind, progression and ballance together while I was arguing purely about the grind and monetization factors. Why exacly?

I never claimed I enjoy the fact the new players face against equipment they cannot possibly counter and I think it should be addressed. For example, when I take Panzer 3, there is nothing Soviet T60 can do against me. Literally nothing. I think this shouldnt happen, but I also know that Battle Rating system is very complex and it isnt created from thin air.

Yeah stop being a a##ho#e guys.
War Thunder works for 10 years…
Meanwhile like all other games from Gaijn are far from being sucessfull or as sucesfull like WT.

And no competiton does not mean that it will be no competition in the future or that people will still stay even if there no other player on the market. Ask Heroes and Generals. Had no real free WWII counter part until the OBT of Enlisted (and they even have a RTS/ FPS based war which is even more unique) and now they have like five active devs left who just make skins, “new” guns and vehicles. They are screwed.
Never trust on monopolism.

I do find it curious that War Thunder kept actually expanding despite their position on the market. The cynic in me would say that the more there is to grind, the more there is to monetize through that extra grind.

War Thunder works because it has no competition. It’s bascially the big fish in the small tank. Once you join the FPS scene. Hello competition. Competition that has far more experience and understanding of the targeted audience.

If you think Enlisted will survive in the FPS market with it’s current approach on monetization you haven’t been paying attention. Don’t use as an argument War Thunder. FPS scene is where really big developers/companies play and they do everything to get the playerbase off other games in the FPS genre.

I find it amazing you are simping for a company that is looking to milk you. We are all losers in this, cant you see?

Agree

Also id like to know what Russian players think. Are they all fine with this system?

So stating that the company has to monetize the game in order to keep the lights up is simping? What? I’m just tired of arguments like “The grind is too hard”, or “this shouldnt be monetized in this way”. All I’m seeing is a bunch of crying and not enough propositions for alternative solutions to these problems.

It’s all nice and easy to say “Hey Gaijin, figure it out” but its something else to provide actual constructive feedback as to how it should be done better (feedback that includes alternative and feasible monetization schemes).

If someone says, “hey, I dont like the grind, would you kindly change it?”, they also need to add “well since you ease the grind, you decrease the incentive for premium account, so this drop in income could be compensated by doing this”

Because without taking monetization into account, you are adresing just half of the problem

A little addition about UI:

  • Please for the love of God, mark ammo boxes and tank’s refills with some markers on the map. First hard to find because they are looking pretty similar to surrounding props. Second just disappearing if you drove a bit too far,
Mark them on the map please.

I have came up with constructive criticism and possible solutions, you are just ignoring what I’m saying. And if you think they need our “solutions” … trust me, they know VERY well what they are doing they are not stupid.

As an example I used the Premium Battle pass would be an instant buy from me if it didnt had that limitation in place.

Because they want to you to force to play every day and we all know that beats the premium point…if you dont have time you play all the time, you buy premium….you said that even yourself. You buy premium and you still a at a disadvantage. How does that even work?

They made the battle pass in mind with this:

  • Force people to log daily, but if they would put all that effort into making the game better you’d have people play it daily, instead of trying scummy approaches.
  • They gambling on your not being able to finish the battle pass so you dont make the points back so you have to spend extra money in case you want the next.
  • Are afraid you would farm it too fast, which is never a bad thing because you payed for it. They are your rewards to take.

Name me one single AAA game, where they put a daily cap on their battlepass. I played every successful game out there that had battle pass. On the contrary, most company try to shower you in free stuff(especially as premium) to stick to the game longer and play the game and increase the player base.

Right now instead of feeling good If would buy the bpass, I would feel like I been scammed of money.

well, i don’t know where you where during cbt but me, tcat, tchof, and many others suggested ourselves different types of monetizations for the game.

but we have been blatantly ignored.

so, that’s not the point.

Ever heard of WOT etc.?They seems to have enough money to create shitty ads and being quite present on the GamesCom.
