A Fortress Centred Map - Siege of Sevastopol

Hi everyone,

NEW MAP IDEA

Context behind mu suggestion

After going back to playing battlefield 1, specifically playing the Verdun maps (in a big ass bunker / fort), I made me reminisce and think huh - why can I not have a similar experience in Enlisted?

Some things I particularly enjoyed was:

  1. the CQC - specifically the movement of battle lines back and forth creating a dynamic feeling of battle lines
  2. the opportunity to flanking manoeuvres - being able to skip outside the fort to then head back inside, leading me onto;
  3. lockable (almost) blast proof doors - helps counter flanks and makes locations feel secure

Some images of this map are below, for those who are unfamiliar:

Historical Context

The bunker contained:

  • Two huge 305 mm naval artillery guns
  • Reinforced concrete gun turrets
  • Underground ammunition chambers
  • Command rooms
  • Barracks and support areas
  • Machine-gun positions

During the final German offensive against Sevastopol in June 1942, German forces faced the problem of destroying this heavily protected position. Initial attacks using artillery and aircraft failed to immediately neutralise the fortress.

Eventually, German engineers and assault troops moved in to finish the job. After damaging the main gun systems, German infantry attacked the entrances and underground areas of the fortress. Fighting became a brutal close-quarters battle inside the bunker, with Soviet defenders resisting through smoke, darkness and collapsing tunnels.

Engineers used explosives and flamethrowers to clear remaining defensive positions, while German troops fought through the underground galleries to capture the complex. Even after the main guns were disabled, the Soviet garrison continued resisting until the position was finally overwhelmed in late June 1942.

How would this map work in Enlisted

  1. Invasion - USSR hold the fort, split into different layers and Germans attacking.
  2. Destruction - most historically accurate
  3. Conquest - fort can be split up to have this too

Why I think it would work

It has both outside areas surrounding the fortress, as well as interiors, so supports flanking / offers variety of play.

Are these pictures of the fortress today?

And also, how would tank and planes gameplay work?

That’s actually a really good point I didn’t consider earlier. A fortress doesn’t really lend itself well to vehicle gameplay (that walled castle thing from Moscow is a pain to drive tanks in, let alone an actual underground bunker).

Unless enlisted brings in a mechanic where vehicles are restricted or not available on maps (like battlefront), then it wouldn’t really be possible. Besides, it’d just alienate tank and plane mains.

Well Enlisted is infantry based, so maybe it could be a good thing, bring these tank and planes mains out of their armored shells

it would be awesome to use them like Armored train gun lol

Correction, Enlisted is an Combined Arms game. Enlisted wouldn’t work without vehicles supporting infantry. For example the maps with massive plains or unprotected areas (cough cough D-Day) would be impossible to progress in without tanks shelling the encampments. Although infantry should be the bigger focus I agree when it comes to maps and gameplay choices.

Indeed, but you can’t progress without infantry on the object. You can’t capture points in a tank, or explode an objective with a plane. But I do agree that they borh play an important part in determining which side wins or lose

yea, these are images today, no images at the time were taken of the interior of the fortress, so had to make do to bring it to life

There are surrounding areas to the fortress itself which can allow for flanking manoeuvres, where tanks can have their play

there are open areas surrounding the fortress where tanks can fight / infantry can flank dug in positions

on this, for a wider point, there are so many heavy installations which should be operaitonal like the 88s, the heavy AA guns e.g on the bulge, and on those swampy normandy maps with the railway guns

it would provide for a meaningful benefit to capture certain positions if using the weapons there gave a battlefield benefit e.g artillery, countering paratroopers, stuff like that

I see no reason why soviet defendenders should not be able to use this massive artillery piece to provide some artillery

I like this, really reminds me of cqc in the kroll opera house. I wish a conquest was made from that map.

A good two points of the map can probably heavily cqc, while the other three can have limited exposure to vehicles.

It will not be awesome to fight as the receiving end. Unlike armored train gun, those gun are large caliber and heavily armored.

No it is a Combined Arms game.

I am not totally against, but its need to have for vehycles something else as well!

Maybe if its with maybe 2 Strategic Points at one time one just for Infantry the other for vehycles this will maybe work?

yea, it has a large outdoors area which surrounds the bunker as well as small CCC

There was a Sevastopol Level in the Strategy game Blitzkrieg 2 there was a lot of vehycle action!

This map design is brilliant, a fortress-themed arena centered on tight indoor skirmishes.
The Type 89 grenade discharger and RMN50 are rarely seen in current matches. Besides, rifle grenades have received stat nerfs over updates. These high burst siege weapons are no longer overpowered, making them well-balanced for fortress combat scenarios.

When devs rolled out the Soviet-Japanese battle theatre, they could have introduced a map modelled after the Humen Fortress, yet this idea never came to fruition.
Was this stronghold breached by railway guns or Karl heavy mortars?

my understanding is that it was breached by an infantry assault, and German engineers destroyed the soviet placement coastal and railway artillery
