Ladders are in many first person shooters one of the top MVP’s in killing players.
Status Now: Climbing a ladder up works mostly fine, but on some positions (like the ruined church or watch towers) the ladder force you to press jumping twice to climb up the right direction.
However, climbing a ladder down is very dangerous because you have to fall down and run against the ladder and press jump/climb so you can grip and stop falling down.
The best solution would be a button/function with that you can climb down the ladder safely without falling down and risking to die.
