XP Gain is Inconsistent - more score doesn't = more XP

Anyone know how the base XP is calculated from a match before the multipliers? It doesn’t seem to directly follow score or time in match. I had 2.5k score in a match and got similar XP (base) to a match with 4.2k score. In another game I had 3k score and the match was longer, but got less XP so it is not because of the length of the match either.

It’s pretty nebulous and looks like it is unrelated to how well you do. Check out the screenshots below from my tiny experiment.

-------------------------2563 score & 26:39 time = 5245 XP------------------------

-----------------------4266 score & 23:33 time = 5235 XP--------------------------

------------------------3211 score & 28:48 time = 4647 XP------------------------

There is no direct relation AFAIK, but higher scores do generally give more experience… try scoring low and see how much you get!

Also check each soldier - it gives a breakdown of what they achieved and how htey scored.

There is a correlation for sure, but it is not 100%. I’d prefer if it was more rational. It’s super bizarre that I got more XP with less score and time. Also weird that 2k more score resulted in no difference in XP. Perhaps there is a bug or the algorithm needs adjustments.

Was curious about other people’s experiences and insights.

From experience you have nice kills there BUT your total overall score isn’t in what I would call “high XP bracket”

5000-8000 us where you really rake in the XP.

Best source of XP is killing tanks. If you had another 5 tank kills youd be there

Oh and you missed out on a ton of XP from not building rally points.

I find it consistent. 9-10 bronze orders a game

How much base XP (before multipliers) did you get from your 5-8k score games? Also are those games primarily infantry or are you using a vehicle?

I build rally points consistently (although seems like barbed wire and sandbags give way more engineer points). Also in the third screenshot you can see I killed 4 tanks while the others I killed less…but still got less XP than the other games.

It’s super confusing and inconsistent how the XP is calculated at the end result. It would be nice if there was more transparency as to why more score or more time doesn’t always equal more XP.

I’ll have to check my screenshots when I get home from work. But I do it on foot or in vehicle, doesn’t really matter.

Also it’s worth noting I run premium

I usually aim for 100 kills, 5 plus tank kills, 3 caps, 50 engi points and whatever on objective kills I can get

First print you lost the batle. There’s a 1.5x xp just for winning.

With premium squads premium time winning the batle and getting 5 to 15k xp means around 40 to 60k per batle here.
Loosing would give me 20to30 k for the same in-game actions and xp.

Best squads apply a 1.4 to 1.5 x extra. But every action in-game counts in the end scorebord. Not just base xp.

Imo… Kinda off-topic here.

Best xp farm goes:
Be the best squad of that type 1.5x xp at the end
Be first position
Premium squads = double xp for every action that squad did
Premium time = double base xp per action
Capture kills, defencive kills are best xp farmers per minute.
Then vehicle kills.

Other actions give xp, but they are too low per min of your objective is farm a campaign in 1 or 2 weeks.

Eng xp it’s too low per min comparing to the number of kills you get inside an objective.
A kill is 30 xp. 45 inside or defending a point.
A eng spawn is 8to15 xp.
Even an assist gets same xp as a eng spawn. Not worth playing eng for the xp. Play eng to win the match. Once i place a spawn point, I don’t waste time placing Defences. I only place ammo when I need it.
I go with the mentality that Everyone can have a eng in every squad. If they want ammo, let them place them. If you are focused on getting xp, play for you.

Some actions give Too low xp for the effort. For example aa guns.

If m playing for xp, and xp only and I find the match boring, too slow or I m spawncamped, I usually move to another batle. I don’t loose nothing besides my time, so I try to make it count.

Just a note on XP from engi being too low for the effort, yes technically, however in invasion I always spawn engi first, set up a close rally so I’m always in the fight, drop ammo on point and create a quick bottle neck

.Straight away I have my 50 engi points and all my squads that come after will spawn close and have abundant ammo.

Engis pave the way for my other squads to really capitalise. And get the big scores

To clarify I’m referring to the base XP, the XP before the multipliers. My observation is that it isn’t a 1:1 correlation with the score. You’ll notice that even though I lost, my base XP before the multipliers was the same as another game with 2k more score.

My intention with this discussion wasn’t to complain about my XP but rather to get more transparency on how XP is calculated because it isn’t as intuitive as you’d think according to my results. As it stands right now, you can’t predict that X actions and Y score will result in Z XP. Maybe the discussion may bring to light issues in the way XP is calculated.

Fair

For sure!

Spawn point then I only use eng again to spawn another point. Just that.

Wasting time in sandbags or aa guns isn’t rewarding if the objective is xp farm.

It is and isn’t.
You can do 100 xp with straight base kills on a open field
On another match 100 xp defencive kills.(example)

At the end of the match you still only see 100 base score on both matches.

Forget about xp multipliers and let’s say you won both.

You gonna get more final xp on the one you did the kills inside a point. Even tho, you did 100 base score both matches.

This was an example

For that you have to read all the details on the end scoreboard, over your mouse on the campaign xp, then what per squad actions gave the final xp.
If you add them, you get the end score, not the xp on the final leaderbord.

All actions with the xp gained ill apear there.

I m not entired sure, but time alive per squad may change the xp output. Since it’s a data point on the score bord.

I know what you’re saying, but it isn’t that simple. Compare this screenshot to the first one. More objective kills and score but less XP by 1000. Also check the experience breakdown - the squad with 1260 score achieved more XP than the squad with 1365 score. So counterintuitive.

Also the pts from kills (+30), defense (+15), tanks (+100), etc is score not XP. So you can’t say a tank kill = 100 XP or whatever. There’s no way to know how much XP it is. XP is all in the backend and we don’t know how Darkflow translates actions and score into XP. If you keep track of your results, you’ll see that things don’t add up and something funky is going on from match to match.

But you are already assuming an even score - and since base defence kills give you more SCORE that’s already taken into account.

Eg you get 15+15 =30 for an outright kill
+15 got base defence
+15 for long range
+15 for head shot

  • bonuses for multi-kills (you can get over +1500 for large multikills with aircraft for example)
    …etc

So 2 base defence kills gives 90 score (2 x 45), which takes 3 “normal” kills to get.

It is way too opaque.

Not directly, nearly no relation, You kill nothing build nothing in the game will get 0 scores but get a little amount of EXP.

From what I see, if your battle concentrated on a few soldiers, the exp gain would be much less than the scores you get.

Looks like more soldiers participants in the battle, more exp gained.

I don’t think kill tanks can get many exp, I attached 2 pictures shows 2 games in row that got nearly same kills, same zone kills, same cap point, same assist. Funny that the game with much more tanks killed and rally points builded, got much less EXP.

Thank you so much for sharing. This is a textbook example of what I mean. It makes no sense why the results are so different. A 38% difference! You might be suspicious of the time, but I’ve shown in my screenshots that it is not necessarily always the case that the game with more time and score (pic 3 v pic 1) will have more xp.

When I play an awesome game I want an awesome result, but I end up with basically the same result as a normal game. Super disappointing and confusing. The whole XP calculation is super opaque. Darkflow give us more transparency.

Heres the other thing about XP, are your squad XP upgrades done? how many specialists of the corresponding squad took part and how much did they do? (For example if you are using an assaulter squad with 4 assaulters or less, 6 engineers in engineer squad or less perhaps a tank with only 2 crew as apposed to a tank with 6 crew) specialists get more XP used inside their parent squad.

Did you use a premium squad at any point or now the XP boost. So many factors

I could be wrong about this but I believe it matters.

If I used say a rifle squad, but my assaulter got 20 kills, he would get less XP than if he got 20 kills in an assaulter squad. Same kills, different XP. Then comes on all the other stuff, multi kill, objective kill, head shot, best in class

That’s not true. That only applies to the soldier XP, not campaign XP. If you scroll you see the campaign XP is made up from the squads. If you scroll to the squads that XP is then multiplied by the squad XP. If you scroll to the soldier you will see the soldier multiplier.

As I said, I could be wrong but I’m not convinced without being home to actually look at the break down. I’ve never had cause to look at it so closely.
