Why use the Sniper SVT-40 over the SVT-38?

Hi all. This is a genuine question.

Why would people use the Sniper SVT 40 over the SVT 38?

I don’t own the 40 yet but the 38 which you unlock earlier in the campaign has less recoil with same fire rate and mag size so what is the advantage or purpose of the 40?

SVT 40 SVT-38

Reload time 2.5 sec vs 2.6 sec. 0.1 sec faster reload is basically a cheat. Nerf SVT-40!

Maybe they displayed the specs wrongs like they do for the german pre war sniper kar… wich reminds me they still haven’t fixed it

Could be.

I don’t own a SVT 40 in Moscow or I’d take both to the range and run some tests.

The SVT-40 has less horizontal recoil, which should in theory mean the recoil is more predictable even if it’s higher, and it does reload a bit faster.

But that’s about all. On the whole, it’s just a sidegrade. Which isn’t a bad thing, imo.

That said, I hope it’s so the soviet snipers are padded out a bit before introducing the Sniper AVS-36 vs Sniper FG-42.

It just seems a bit odd to be honest. So it’s campaign filler basically.

Which one do you prefer the feel of on your troops?

I also still sometimes prefer the bolt action snipers. They have better scope and 1 shot down or kill reliably.

Neither, because of two reasons. For one, I’m not high enough rank on the soviet side to use either in Berlin, and my knowledge comes from taking guns off of dead soldiers and math. For two, I prefer bolt action snipers, much for the reason you said, as upgraded they have much higher one-shot-kill potential, and I have an oddly high rate of rolling bolt action sniper rifles with bronze orders, so by the time I get the semi-autos, I have a bunch of max-level bolt action snipers sitting around.

There is a big difference, one is level 5 max, the other is 6. The stats are generally higher.

It feels better, but not sure it shows in numbers that much. The stats used to be different - SVT38 had less stats. This might have changed since.

Thanks for showing them maxed out.

Just to clarify. In your opinion the SVT 40 is better?

Because even maxed out they still have same damage same ROF but the SVT 40 has more vertical recoil and a touch less horizontal.

If your familiar with actually using them can you let me know why you think one is better than the other?

I’m just trying to understand.

I feel like Darkflow should’ve given the Sniper SVT-38 to the Germans, because they did capture stockpiles of them early in the war. Soviets could have gotten the legit Sniper SVT-40 at Level 16 in Moscow.

It’s probably too late to adjust the Campaign Level unlocks but oh well. Pre-war Kar98k at Level 16 for the Germoids was just stupid.

Yes, I like SVT 40 better, but it is very expensive to max out, just end game toy, basically. I got it maxed just by using random weapon packs, and silver packs. Didn’t pay much actually money.

BUT SVT38 is almost as good, it feels like 40 is more stable, don’t know why. And it’s a LOT easier to max SVT38, it’s only level 5 max.

Cheers

You should consider these two weapons in terms of bronze orders. Two weapons of the same type, control and power - this is a +100% chance to get what you need for your soldiers, if you extremely need this.

I guess it might not have been thought of by the developers in this way, but it helps, for example, to quickly assemble a squad with different PPDs, while not being sprayed with getting used to different weapons, recoil and rate of fire.

I’m sure the game is full of sniper players who like the semi-automatic style of play, but absolutely dislike mortars, flamethrowers and other debris called bolt action. This allows them to assemble a powerful sniper squad without spending as many bronze orders as if instead of the SVT-40 there was something else.

Very good points. Thank you for your explanation.

I have a true bolt action on slot 1 and the semi on 2 ,i switch to 2 when i see a large group on short to medium range so i can clear them out quicker , or need to do a last stand .
