Why tf do HE shells bounce off the ground?

So not only tank MGs are basically useless due to ridiculous overheating, now even HE shells can be useless due to ricochets.
Good job.

Because even HE shells(smoke shells too) have a fuse that couldn’t connect with target on some angles, we even have it in patchnote:

Fair enough. It’s still dumb though that you didn’t decrease overheating of MGs to account for this.

I understood. But there is also another two issue with he: 1. high caliber He hitting the ground even with infantry around still cant do any damage in some occassions. I am sure they did explode.2. penetration indicator with HE is disabled/misleadingly always red, at least for some tanks.

I think this issue has been in the game quite some time, atleast happened to me quite often way before this update came.

When ever possible aim at infantry directly, because we all know soft surfaces like ground or wooden wall doesnt trigger the fuse just like IRL.
But rock hard infantry will detonate the fuse because that just makes sense.

While this is true, it has been unceremoniously over exaggerated in game just like the MG overheating. The number of HE shells that just ricochet upwards now is ridiculous and needs to be tweaked

It’s not a bug, it’s the game working as intended, though perhaps too strongly and not in a way that is intuitive to players. Back when they changed how explosive damage worked they seemed to have changed how all explosives worked in one fell swoop, all explosives now make an outward facing cone of damage rather than a dome to simulate bombs and shells burying themselves into the ground before detonating.

This was changed around the same time the airstrike was introduced in Stalingrad so people could avoid 90% of explosive damage by going prone. People understand that diving helps avoid bombs but it doesn’t seem to be intuitive that tank shells also bury themselves into the target before detonating. It would help if the game engine could differentiate between what type of surface the shell is contacting before detonating to determine the AOE shape but I guess that would be too complex for the game.
