Because soldiers get the option between backpack or 2nd weapon. Mortars and flamers have a 2nd weapon

Yeah, but the Flamers have Gasbag in the slot, while Mortars have… nothing?

wel they need to carry the mortars on there back so that is why they dont carry backpack. because they need that space at the back for the mortar

And where exactly do bombers carry their AT guns? In their pocket? Yet, they have backpack slot unlock in their tree and can have a backpack.
So, I don’t think this “second gun OR backpack” argument is valid, cause Bombers say we can have both.

Well, in CBT we had discusion if AT guys should have rifles at all. Backpacks were not a thing back then but you can find it if you are interested.

Yeah but all Anti-tank rifles and Launchers have slings so they can carry a backpack
I made a quick check for you and this is the result:
(It’s how it looks when I picked AT rifle, I suppose it looks the same for the equipped one.)
So (at least in case of AT rifles) it’s a good question why AT guys can have backpacks. I guess it might be changed so that AT ammo pack is in backpack slot to block it. But it’s a balancing issue and I’m too incompetent to kick that anthill.
If somebody with unlocked AT rifle and large backpack reads this, plz send a screenshot.

So when I was in military service during maneuvers I carried a full backpack AND a 60mm mortar AND it’s ammo (hooked to the backpack). And a full complement of 120 rounds of rifle ammo AND 5 hand grenades.
Space certainly is not an issue here…
