Seriously it can absorb a F’ton of 20 mm
I suppose you are flying C.202 EC, if so, keep in mind that your 12.7mm MGs are shooting a bit higher than your 20mm cannons (thanks to lack of gun convergence setting in this game 
). Even if you are hitting enemy with MGs (white hit markers) you may not be hitting it with your cannons as bullets are just flying under or behind enemy aircraft, you need to aim a bit higher or with greater lead with cannons.
In case you know all of this, then sorry to point that out, but some other players may not be aware of it.
From my experience there are times where I just quickly get rid of SBD-3 by pretty short burst, but other times there are tons of hits and it’s still flying, so there’s nothing so special about this aircraft.
There is also very heavy impact on successful damage to enemy by just server side, i.e. server lag. Playing on NA server from Europe gave me many hit markers (let’s say 15-20) flying Bf 109 K4 (30mm cannon) and yet enemy planes seemed to be undamaged, while flying on EU or EEU server I often needed (but not always) like 3-4 hits and whole tail or half of enemy aircraft is falling apart.

I fire my cannons separately, so ya that part is known to me,
But the server thing that’s interesting, how do you tell Whear the server is ?
I just set only one server from the list (NA / EU / EEU) so I know where I play, and on custom matches you can see where is the server set. If you have all 3 set as active servers when you play squads then you wouldn’t know where exactly you are, perhaps there is some way to check it that I don’t know how, so can’t help with that.
Same here, and it’s silly .30 cal in the back easily kills you

With my SBD I once put all my rounds into a Stuka but the fucker still wouldnt go down.
But SBD guns suck.
Just for fun…fly the spitfire upside down and shoot down ME110.
It has .50 cals, the guns don’t suck just low ammo
Today I’m going to try and select North American server and see if that changes anything, I think it could very well be part of the problem I’m experiencing not just with the SBD but with some of the other airplanes as well
The beaufighter has great guns. Recommended.
