To which the answer is - they aren’t - all open topped vehicles have hte same problem.

The M18 just doesn’t have a Commander’s Periscope nor view port. You gotta have your head out or be looking through the gunner’s sight to see

Same for M8 Scott, or pretty much any Open top that has a commander seat, the Japs one has a wacky driver view
