I think it’s so good because of its “usable life” e.g. how long it can remain useful, which is really long. This is due to it having:
4 really good rocket-bombs
120x2 rounds of 30mm HE
66x1 rounds of mixed 37mm APC/HE
Whereas something like a Stuka has only
4x50kg Bomb
1x250kg Bomb
2x7.92mm MG17
The Stuka is only really useful because of the bomb load. 2 rifle caliber machine guns are nowhere near good enough to shoot down planes, and can’t be effective on infantry without massive skill. So the gameplay loop of the Stuka is:
Spawn, drop bombs, resupply/kamikaze
Whereas the Bf110 has not only its rockets, but also its auto cannons, which decimate planes, infantry, and even tanks!
This makes the gameplay loop of the Bf110 more like:
Spawn, fire rockets, turn around, strafe with autocannons, target and harass tank with 37mm, shoot down plane, resupply/kamikaze.
This massive versatility not only makes the Bf110 more useful, but also makes it way more fun than a Stuka or a Ju-188.
Probably the best early game attacker in the game.
I still personally prefer ju188 or a p-47 though
You have probably never used a P47. The 10 missiles destroy everything on the map that minute.
The cannons could be better if the player could adjust the type of ammo and visibility was further away. It’s hard to see infantry and get enough shots.
However, the Bf-110 is a great plane, probably better than the Me-410, which appears 30 levels later and carries the same 4 missiles.

To be honest, if the P-47 didn’t have a bomb they would be equal in terms of ground pounding ability, granted the Bf 110 is a whole hell of a lot harder to use, but its still good when you know what you are doing.
It’s good in terms of the armament, but that’s about it. It’s severely underpowered and the handling is poor compared to the P-51, though it will edge out the P-38 (seriously, I hate that plane). Simply put, if you can’t outturn your opponent, it doesn’t matter how good your guns are. They can hold until they get a good shot and bury a few through your canopy.
It’s the Luftwaffe A-10 thunderbolt, can’t go wrong with those dual 30mm cannons
I prefer the 410, it can out turn most fighters, has great anti air guns, plus rockets, the bf110 is dead usually a fighter get on it tail, tail Gunner might help a bit now though… not tried it.
